Looking for some assistance here... I've tried both 10.4.3 and 10.4.4 patched to 10.4.5 and each time I try to install I get to the grey Apple screen where it seems as if it's loading the install but then this circle that looks like a do not enter sign appears... and the installation stays at the grey screen before I can even select a language...

Laptop specs are

Compaq R4000

AMD Athlon 64 3200+

1 GB Ram

ATI Xpress 200M Video

etc....

Any Help would be great thanks.... (I used partition magic to set up a 7 GB partition that is currently not set to any file system... unallocated)

i think it maybe due to the ati x200 chipset in your laptop? if you were to press F8 during boot up and type in -v and return (this turns on the verbose booting), you will most likely see what is causing the hang up.

most likely to the sound of "waiting for boot device". if not, try to use the search function on the forum and look for the error you are facing.

this was discussed and solved on this thread. thanks to scousi and the gang :)

i'm in the process of trying to get around this myself.

hope that helps.

i've been reading a lot about this and so far i haven't stumbled on anyone making a patch for it.

i actually installed 10.4.4 through vmware and put the kext in. however next reboot, i came upon the "still waiting for root device" problem. i guess it's time to read some more.

good luck to you.

Hello All,

Can I add the ati fix ppf to the newest 10.4.4 myz.iso image? I tried and I get a bin/check error using ppf-o-matic3. When I tried to install anyways (native)I get an immediate kernal panic . Any ideas?
