josh Gillner
ok, here's the story. I bought a dell vostro 1700 back in november. It still has one or two years(i cant remember) warrenty (w/accidental) on it and i was looking to sell it on ebay .specs:vostro 1700 17" high res 1920x1200 glossy 8600M GT 256 MB 2 GB RAM 160 GB HD at 5400 RPM 9 Cell Battery T7500 2.2 GHz C2D DVD R/RW Sigmatel 9205 Dell Wireless Card It came with vista business but i'm going to wipe leopard off of it and install vista ultimate. I'm also gonna put on office 2008 (downloaded) =).Do you think that i'll be able to fetch 1500 for that setup, with the remaining warranty? (I paid over 2000 in november)anything you can think of to increase the value? (I don't want to get sued for including too much pirated software) lol And finally, which config of the MBP do you think I would be able to get on ebay for that much?I was looking at some nice 15" C2D ones thanks! oh, and I need to do this relatively fast, as I've heard rumors about a new chipset coming out for laptops and I don't want its value cut in half =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108638-buying-my-first-mac-mbp/ Share on other sites
exscape
I don't think installing warez on it just to sell is a very good idea... Get the Vista business install back there instead. Robbiem
were did you get the laptop and warranty from? you said accidental, makes me think that perhaps you got it from Best Buy?? if so you wouldn't be able to sell the warranty with it, (well you could) but if wouldn't mater, because the warranty is registered under your name and phone number, and you would have to give all that information to who ever you sell it to.. so i think that is out of the question, and any software you put on it, is not going to "increase" the value of the laptop, the value is measured on the hard ware, and how old/new it is. optional accessories like a laptop bag (since your probably going to need a new one for the MBP anyway) and maybe a mouse and what not, would SLIGHTLY increase the value of the "package" but other than that most people, know how and where to download software from. BUT if you think it helps, put as much pirated software on it that you want, and place a disclaimer on the ebay page, clearing your name of any legal liability to what is on the laptop... any other question? jut let me know... -Robbie Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108638-buying-my-first-mac-mbp/#findComment-770805 Share on other sites
josh Gillner
I bought the laptop from the dell online store, and I've heard you can transfer warranty through ebay purchases relatively easily. The only reason I am putting vista ultimate on it is because dell does not ship with os reinstall disks anymore, so thats pretty much my only option. Again any ideas about what I can get for it or if 1500 is reasonable? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108638-buying-my-first-mac-mbp/#findComment-770961 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
$1500 sounds reasonable. Look around ebay, see what other people are asking... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108638-buying-my-first-mac-mbp/#findComment-771175 Share on other sites
josh Gillner
I did that before I asked here, and there were only extremely low-end versions of my setup for sale. The only other baseline I can look at for comparison is the inspiron 1720, which is a lot more inexpensive than my model. thanks =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108638-buying-my-first-mac-mbp/#findComment-771193 Share on other sites
Robbiem
ok well you buying it from dell makes the situation (of warranty ) a lot different, although the software that is included, does not make so much of a difference, you could advertise on ebay a few different options. 1: your dell + ...package (Vista Enterprise) =1000$ 2: your dell + video editing package (Vista Business)=1300$ 3: your dell + GFX design package(Vista Home Basic) =1500$ 4: your dell + audio editing package(Vista Home Premium) =1700$ 5: your dell + CS3 Master Collection(Vista Ultimate) =2000$ Of course you can change the packages, but something like that would give the buyers something to look at, and depending which one they choose, = which one you DL and install (plus the optional editing stuff) something of that nature..... have them choose between one of those packages, and you know the rest. and OFC WHEN INCLUDING PIRATED SOFTWARE, MAKE A DISCLAIMER FREEING YOU OF LIABILITY -Robbie Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108638-buying-my-first-mac-mbp/#findComment-771265 Share on other sites
