Hi everybody!

generally speaking,,i bang my head off walls for a few months,,,then come here begging as a last resort,,,,,

so with a very sore head i present the following.

i have been runing two hacks successfully for some time now.

the problematic one is

10.5.1 kalyway on

2.4ghz core2duo e6600

4 x 1gb ddr 667 cheapish ram

Conroe 954g-dvi motherboard

nvidia 512mb 7600gt

sataii dvd/dl etc etc r/rw etc

one WD 80GB system drive, one partition, leopard system. hfs+ journalled

one WB 500gb storage drive, one partition, hfs+ journalled

one firewire pci card

this computer is kept off the internet, and literally has no software bar protools and plugins.

it is very clean, very fast and very healthy, although,

a while ago i booted up, to find that my storage hard drive was being presented to me with "limited access"

long story short, i backed up, deleted and created a new partition, and put all my files back on.

this was fine for about a week untill the same thing happened again, so,

i slaved the drive to a seperate pc with xp, ran scandisk, formatted again, scanned again, and ran programs like speedfan to test disk reliabilitiy.

the disk shows as being fine,,and smart status is ok (i have smart off on the hackintosh)

so,,,i put all my files back on again, and went with the flow,,

this happened for a third time,,so i have decided that the drive is on its last legs.

im still using it, but i will replace it soon,,,,however.........

this morning i woke up and turned on the hackintosh to find that the post screen was taking its time in detecting my OTHER hard drive,,,,the system drive.

after 30 seconds of "detecting", it would slowly makes it way to boot, before freezing with a no entry sign over a grey screen.

to eliminate possibilitys i removed the storage hdd and booted again with the same results.

i tried bios options, but really i was clutchin at straws, with no joy.

also tried verbose boot, but i just get a list of

"still waiting for root device"

i'm fairly confident that i can boot from dvd installer, and repair the drive,,,but, my question is this,

can anyone think of a reaon for this other than two faulty 6 month old drives?

could something in the system be causing file system damage?

i should also include that ALL hardware is running efficiently with appropriate kexts,,even the 512mb nvidia etc.

thanks everyone, i hope i have provided enough information.

really? no one has any experience with recurring file system problems?

the main symptom is that after start up, a dialogue will apear saying volume 'storage' could not be repaired and has been mounted with limited access. or something to that affect.

obviously,,when the problem was the system drive,,it just would boot, but presumably, had i slaved it to a working system, the same dialogue would have shown,

hope someone can help,,,i've been lucky with data recovery, but it's a matter of time really?!?!?!
