tuck1989
I've been having this issue I believe since I first started the grueling process of installing kalyway leopard on my evga nforce 680i board. My problem is unusual, and despite a crazy amount of troubleshooting I still have next to no idea what's causing this. I'm getting random keyboard and mouse lockups after a certain amount of time with my system running, usually about an hour, but sometimes as little as 15 minutes. The lockups have always occured when I'm not physically using the computer (I leave it for a sec, come back, and my keyboard and mouse are nonresponsive). What's strange is that despite the freeze, my clock continues to tick forward in the background, and graphic animations like loading bars and the time machine logo continue to spin. However, if I'm installing and my system locks, the bar does not move forward past the point it was at on lockup, so it seems like more than my input devices are freezing. I'm running 10.5.2, without the Leopard graphics update (a couple of installs ago it gave me seemingly unsolvable kernel panics). I'm on an SATA drive using Medevil's AppleNForceATA kext, and aside from nvinject and my edited graphics kexts (with my device id), my extensions are as installed since the kalyway update to 10.5.2. I'm running the kalyway 10.5.2 (9.2.0) kernel for nforce boards, with 9.2.0 system.kext (there's only one that works for all 9.2.0 kernels, right?). My rig is: Evga board, PNY 7900 GS, 2 gb ram, intel 2.4 gz stock core 2 duo, on a sata drive. If anyone has any ideas, it would be a huge help, this is the only (but incredibly annoying) glitch I have with my system. Thanks in advance! Oh, and I also have this problem when booting into the install dvd and leaving it idle... kabutop
I've got exactly the same problem... and no solutions ! Helpppp Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/107018-random-lockups-on-nforce-680i/#findComment-759957 Share on other sites
tuck1989
So I downloaded iAtkos 2 and installed. That was SO much easier than kalyway 10.5.1. But it also seems to have gotten rid of my mysterious lockup problem. Now I'm getting less mysterious lockups when transferring large files, any ideas? I'm using medevil's AppleNForceATA kext for my sata hdd. SilverSix311
If im correct im not a genius or anything still new to Hackingtosh but i think that the sata controller for Nforce is kinda buggy and will lockup when using it. Mine use to lock up alot and switching to PATA drive completely nulled that out. So go get Pata drives or you SOL i think till someone fixes the bug. almonteb
I'm in the same boat. Except, I can sometimes get a few days before there is a lockup. One of the possibilities could be the NVInject drivers, rather than using GFX-EFI since I do have EFI v8 enabled. My specs are: XFX nVidia 680i Core 2 Duo E6750@2.66ghz 4GB Ram DDR2 800Mhz nVidia 8800GT 512mb 2x 22inch Acer monitors Apple USB Ethernet Lets solve this issue together. blackbird_n1
well I got a problem which sounds close to urs, my mouse becomes a short time very speedy but then the system crashes or just the mouse hangs on Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/107018-random-lockups-on-nforce-680i/#findComment-763136 Share on other sites
almonteb
Last night following this guide: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=91755 I switched from NVInject to GFX-EFI. SO far its been stable, I'll report more on how well this holds up. tuck1989
I also am making the switch to gfx strings. When you switched did you use edited geforce nvdanhal40 an nvdresman kexts? almonteb
I used all the kexts contained in the above posts. As for the plist I used the one by cyclonefr. tuck1989
I've given up on this issue and I'm waiting till I can afford a new motherboard with an intel chipset. Anybody have any recommendations? imk
Are you sure it's the SATA that's causing the lockups? Usually all my network drops, lockups, etc. all seem to be related to the NIC and booting with 2 cores enabled. If I use cpus=1, everything is stable and fine. I never did anything to pinpoint the problem but I assume that the network drops and lockups are related to the NIC. tuck1989
Hey imk, I'm using an nforce 9.2.0 kernel, so I assumed I wouldn't have problems with two cores. My onboard nic is disabled, and I'm using an external card which is supposed to work flawlessly (and to my knowledge has been.) I'll try removing it... imk
I use the nForce kernel, as well. It seems to be the only one that really works the best for me. I've tried a variety of network cards. RealTek 8139 Linksys LNE 100 TX v4.1 On-board Marvell 88E1116 Intel PRO 1000 GT The RealTek 8139 worked with both cpus=1 and when booting with both CPUs enabled. However, if both CPUs were enabled, then the network would randomly drop (but no system lockups). With the Linksys LNE 100 TX, it would also work with both cpus=1 and 2. The network would drop when having both CPUs enabled. However, my system would lock up whether I used cpus=1 or not. The on-board 88E1116 works with (and only with) nForceEthernetController.kext. It also only works with cpus=1. If I boot with both CPUs enabled, the network won't work at all. Even though the network doesn't work with both CPUs enabled, the system still randomly locks up. And since there are no drivers (yet) for the Intel PRO 1000 GT, it just doesn't work at all. So basically, as long as I use my on-board NIC and boot with cpus=1, the system is 100% stable.
