  1. Hey guys SilverSix311 here, I havent been on Insanelymac since my good old 680i days stressing like crazy getting it to work with 10.5.8 Well since then i have gotten accepted to BYU-Idaho (please dont rag on mormon if you dont mind > ). I am finally thinking about getting back into my hackintosh days again as i am about to get my 680i set back up as my plex server for my apartment and turning my windows gaming machine (ASUS P8Z68-V LE mobo and my nVidia GTX 560 TI 448 edition). Looking forward to talking to everyone again. As far as my endeavors go im going to be getting a bit more into the complicated technical side of Mac and Windows hopefully. And to that i will start a new paragraph to ask my questions So here is where i want to accel. I have just got a job at the BYU-I "Computer Help Desk" we do computer repairs on windows mostly but as today Macs are growing greater in numbers we keep getting more and more in. This is no problem as most problems are common and easy to repair (Broken Wi-Fi, Malware, Stuff not installing correctly, or just general user problems). Also with the amount of user coming in growing that means problems that normally a unskilled technician cant fix have been rolling in. These are the ones that i could use a bit more help trying to figure out and accomplish. And as a technician i know how big of a help google can be to get these things fixed as thats where i learned everything i know today. So basically what this whole summary is getting to is: I want to learn Mac's from the technical side and would like some input from you guys where you started, and where to head to learn it all. I have a small understanding of: Kexts - essentially drivers for mac OS Files - I understand somethings and would like to broaden my horizons So as far as kexts go i had a girl come in and her Wi-Fi would completely turn off after you shut her MBP 2010 13inch. I googled it and started trouble shooting. steps tried: 1. Disk Permissions check 2. Cleared SMC and PRAM 3. Checked all Network settings (We fine from what i could see) 4. Tried pulling older kexts from Lion Install disk (IO80211NetworkingFamily.kext, as well as a few other but cant name em right now) 5. To be tried, we are just gonna use the Lion Recovery Partition yo reinstall over her OS to fix the problem unless you guys have something to help Another instance: 2006 MacBook White: Problem - Optical Signal overiding the Speakers on the laptop. 1. Tried the "Toothpick Trick" and triend to get the sensor to shut off, alas no luck after like an hour of fiddleing. 2. Cleared PRAM/SMC 3.I think it might be a faulty IO board for the laptop. Apparently the 2006 model has a seperate Logic board for the Sound and junk. Anything else you guys can think of? I was looking for a way to disable the signal completely so it couldn't switch anyway. So if i could get some help i want to better myself as a technician and be able to fix ANYTHING that comes my way. Mac Side: I want to learn more about the kexts files for mac to better understand them. I want to learn to read console a bit better to trouble shoot problems with laptops. I want to learn anything else you guys think is viable for this position. Windows Side: I want to learn the Registry. I want to learn the deeper side of drivers. I want to learn anything else as well for this. If you guys have websites, video tutorials, and any ideas on how to learn more of this stuff please let me know! Thank you so much and im excited to join the community once again, SilverSix311
  2. Yea i had tried that. I think it just kicked off sometimes or somethin ill try it again. I dont remember what happen honestly. I wanna just buy a new router.
  3. SO i cant have a nForce LAN plugged in with the Apple USB Ethernet adapter? I have router to USB Ethernet, then i have the internet shared through one of the nForce NIC's. Would it work if i had 2 USB ethernets?
  4. Hey Paulyh, What i did was if your using 2 different hard drives you can be inside your Kalyway Leopard 10.5.2 and run the 10.6 snow leopard install disk and run the OSXinstall.mpkg and install it directly to the other hard drive or partition and then just install chameleon RC3 and EFI string and it should work perfectly. You just gotta boot up with "-v arch=i386" and your good. Thats what i did. All the USB installers and that nonsense wouldnt work for me. *EDIT* BTW if you wanna get in touch with me googletalk = SilverSix311
  5. Well Verdant! I have a booting 10.6.4 kernel thanks to you! I wish i could give you a huge hug or somethin. Id send you a few bucks but i am BROKE as a JOKE... College sucks sometimes... Well I am possibly one of the happiest people alive. I was gonna sell my desktop but i didnt want to. And now i dont! Thank you so much!
  6. Hey guys, Sorry its been a while. As soon as the Arg vs Mex game is over im goin to try and do all the steps to fix my install. I tihnk mine might be a mix of dsmos and fakesmc. Well i hope its that simple. And it seems to be weird that my computer is connected to the network but its not sharing anything. Kinda annoying...
  7. @Verdant Well basically all i did was install the combo update straight from the software update built in mac, then before it restarted i reinstalled the kexts from your snowleopard 2.3 zip, then i booted up with "arch=i386 -v" and i got a kernel panic before it tried to do anything. The one i have a picture for in an earlier post. Then i reinstalled the kernel from 10.6 and it works fine. I then tried putting your 10.6.4 kernel and i tried your chmod junk to fix permissions, and then i tried fixing permissions and nothin worked. No matter what i get a KP right when i try to boot. Starbuxx seems to be in the same boat so i might try it without nForceLan.kext. If you have google-talk hit me up SilverSix311.
  8. @Verdant So i tried doin the terminal commands and it didnt work. Still getting the panic, am i supposed to rename any kexts or move them after i install the update?
  9. @Verdant - So i got the kernel you sent me but its doing the same thing as the last one. It wont boot from it for whatever reason. Keeps giving me the same errors... And now that i have been running 10.6.4 with the 10.6 kernel ive noticed that my network sharing things have been acting up... My sharescreen doesnt work and half the time my 680i wont show up on the network to be connected to. We have 1 macbook and 2 MBP's and my hackintosh here. Any ideas?

    released Update to 10.6.4

Hey can someone zip up their 10.6.4 kernel and PM it to me? Im having problems downloading 10.6.4 combo update.
  11. Just wondering if there is a way to get the Sub Channel Front and Rear channels working in mac. I have a logitech Z-5500 surround sound system. Its 5.1 and i have optical working but my cord is really short. And just wondering if there is a way to get the 6 channels works for 6-ch direct for my receiver. Whilst im here i tried to update to 10.6.4 and figured it would KP right off the bat but thats cool. Im working on getting it up and running unless i should just update to 10.6.2 or 10.6.3. Anyone have some recommendations? I tried pfix'ing and moving the kexts back but no go... Anyway heres a picture of the KP. *EDIT* So i got it booting up 10.6.4 but im using the 10.6 kernel from the retail cd. I was guessing its just the kernel thats not wanting to work but it does. Everything seems to work tho. Still would like to run a 10.6.4 kernel tho.
  12. Successful running 10.6.1 on a EVGA 680i! Still not sure if everything is working 100% but its running for 2 days now! My Method: I already had 10.5.6 installed on one partition of my drive so i booted up into Leopard downloaded a DMG of the retail 10.6 and downloaded the needed kexts from Verdant's Guide here. I then Installed 10.6 directly from the cd by going to OSInstall.mpkg under the System folder. Installed 10.6 directly to the drive all vanilla. Then i dropped my kexts into the System/Library/Extensions/ Folder and then ran pfix to fix the permissions. I then open the DSDT patcher GUI and let it do its thing on the drive, then i ran chameleon RC3, then EFI installer app. I patched my boot.plist with my graphics card on the list, then installed EFI to the drive. pfix'd again just to be safe booted up Mac with "-v arch=i386" and bam it worked. Backed up my drive with timemachine and now im running Snow Leopard! Thank you verdant! You are my lover! And mysticus for his help in the past! Specs: EVGA 680i OCZ nVidia Ram - 6gigs 800mhz 2 x 500g 1 x 250g Hard drives XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 640meg Apple USB Ethernet for ease VoodooHDA Optical Out 5.1 Tomorrow im gonna try and upgrade from 10.6 to 10.6.3 i think. Just need to do some more research to be positive that it is going to work.
  13. @Verdant Hey man, I just got my EVGA 680i running snowleopard finally. I have been trying to get my optical sound working and cant seem to get anywhere. I know its a ALC885 and ive tried using the same ALC codec from leopard but it doesnt like it i guess. Ive also tried using voodooHDA, and with no avail.... fail... I havent done the DSDT patching thing i guess. Dont really know what im doing when i look at it. Can you give me a push in the right direction?
