First off, I want to thank all the people on osx86project for the great info I've been slowly gathering. I've learned a lot, though haven't actually "done" anything, yet.

I have the 10.4.4 restore dvd, and the old tiger-x86.tar.bz2, along with all the various versions of maxxuss patches. My "10.4.3 8F111A Patches Jas v4.2.iso" download on the bay seems to be dying out with a long way to go.

From all the reading I've done, it appears there are drivers I need from 10.4.3 to get built up to 10.4.4/5.

I was really hoping to use the 10.4.3 dvd to start, but that ain't gonna happen now.

I've been following advice on system builds here.

My system will be (after it comes in the mail tomorrow, and I put all the pieces together):

Intel motherboard: 945GNTLKR

Intel processor: Pentium D 930 3.0GHz

Corsair 2x1GB 667 MHz DDR2 ram

WD Raptor 74 GB SATA 10k rpm

WD Caviar 320 GB SATA II 7.2k rpm

Pioneer DVR-110

The (I think) way cool Thermaltake Soprano case

Macally IceKey USB Slim Keyboard

USB mouse

USB 2 HD case for old 80/80/120GB drives

Any help on the best route to take would be really appreciated!

EDIT: though it's getting mixed reviews, I have the "10.4.4_DVD_PATCHER" too.

Install the 10.4.3 Jas version FIRST! It is most likely to work if anything will work (should on your system). And it is much easier to more to other versions with 4.3 working.

10.4.3 is the one I can not get downloaded currently. Can I build a bootable 10.4.4 dvd by either installing/booting 10.4.1 and applying the patches to 10.4.4 restore dmg from the 10.4.1 boot? Or, is it possibly to installing opendarwin and apply the patches to the 10.4.4 dmg file there? Or would it work to run the patch program on the 10.4.4 restore from a linux install? I don't think I have read that you can apply patches to a image under linux, but I'm not sure.

dunno if your sata drives will work... check the compatibility list with that mother board

According to the 10.4.4 hardware list, it appears I will need "IONetworkingFamily.kext" and "IOATAFamily.kext" from a 10.4.3 setup to get networking and and SATA to work. It sure would be really nice to find these too files somewhere and be able to do the install without the full 10.4.3. :)
