Apparently the motherboard I am going to use works fine with 10.4.3, so I hope it will work fine with 10.4.4 as well... Cost $64.00 CPU: Intel Celeron D 326 533MHz FSB LGA 775 EM64T Processor w/ Execute Disable Bit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819112207 I am 95% sure that it will overclock just fine to at least 166Mhz FSB, which means free upgrade to 3.16 GHz. Also SSE3 goodies. Cost $68.00 Memory: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145440 One of the best memory kits around. I have installed it in about 40 to 50 computers so far and it has never failed me. Cost $66.00 Case: APEX PC-115 Beige Computer Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811154017 Nothing special - it is a generic looking gray box, but amazingly it has a very high rating on Newegg.com. Cost: $24.00 DVDRW: NEC Beige IDE DVD Burner Model ND-3550A http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827152059 According to Wiki it works fine as well...Cost: $39.00 Hard Drive: Spare WD 80GB. Cost: $0. Here you have it. My master plan is to install OSX 10.4.4, Win XP, and Ubuntu Linux for a triple boot test box. Should have no problem with OC the CPU to 3.16 GHz. I kind of wish now that I ordered an Intel motherboard for more features and stability, but for $300.00 I should not complain... Feel free to comment on my configuration. Also, could anyone PM me some links for 10.4.4? And, why overclock?? Seems like a gamer thing, and the on-board 3D graphics are inadequate for just about any gaming (see reviews). Not at all, I am not a gamer, yet I have my main rig overclocked for about 3 years now, with no problems. It is a P4 Northwood 2.53GHz @ 3.16GHz. The advatage: It has been 3 years since I have build this system, and I still do not have any pratical needs to change anything with my computer - it is still very adequate for everything I do, thanks to that "extra" performance. davido242 Posted March 2, 2006 Share Posted March 2, 2006 I am sure that the 945 would work just as well as the 915, but wasn't it the 915 that was in the developer's intel boxes? The motherboard, if I am not mistaken, was an Intel D915GUXLK, http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/ux/ux_available.htm. I guess I'm not too sure what the difference is, but I think any 915 board would be just as good and possibly cheaper. Please correct me if I am wrong. jthunder Posted March 30, 2006 Share Posted March 30, 2006 Looks good, but get a 945 based board though, I bought a 915 board when we first started testing this, and it now has no upgrade path to the dual core intel chips... The INTEL-D945GTPL board seems pretty good, and not much more expensive and compatible with your selected processor. When you want to boost the performance, switch it out with a mid-range duo chip. Spend upgrade money on good memory too, that is key.
