JellyUK
Hey guys (and girls), Firstly, if this is the wrong section of the forum, mods please move it, i wasn't sure where to post this. OK, so i have a tower running vista at the moment, that i want to turn into a mac based home server, running os x, with vista/xp on bootcamp (but likely will not be used often). I will give each of these os' a separate disk. When i say "home server" i am aware of how os x works as one (currently using an imac as one, of all things...). I'm not sure if my machine will run leopard, and was wondering if i could get some advice on how to approach the installation. My hardware - CPU - AMD Atholon 64 Processor 4000+ (Seems supported on the wiki) Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 (Also seems to be supported) Ram - 1gb (2x512mb) HDD - Sata drives (not sure what to do about these, i need to add a kext, but i don't know if i need to do this before installation?) Graphics - Nvidia Geforce 6200TC (seems to be supported, but not sure) Sound - Realtek AC'97 Audio (seems to be supported, but not sure...) Network - Nvidea nForce networking controller (can't find this on the wiki, but as it's built into the motherboard, i assume it works?) - Linksys Wireless-G PCI Network Adapter with Speedboost (again, not sure which one this is on the wiki, but i assume it works, as most of the linksys ones seem to). I would need to use this card in the long term, but can use the ethernet to get the thing up and running. I am planning to use the Kalway 10.5.2 AMD/Intel installer, but if someone can point out an easier to use/better package, that would be great All of this information came from the vista device manager, if there is a program that can give me more detailed info to work out if my hardware will work, can someone post a link please? So basicaly, i'm unsure about all of it, but mostly about the graphics card, the network card, and the hard drives. Can someone point me in the right direction about these issues? As it will be used mainly as a home server, sound is not an issue, but it would be nice if it did work. For the sata hard drive issue (as stated earlier), do i need to insert the kext into the installation dvd? Or can i do it after install? I'm sorry for so many questions, but i hope someone can help me out If you need any more info to do so, i'll get back to you with it as quickly as i can. Cheers, JellyUK Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/105901-can-someone-help-me-with-my-installation/ Share on other sites
Hagar
Firstly, if this is the wrong section of the forum, mods please move it, i wasn't sure where to post this. All of this information came from the vista device manager, if there is a program that can give me more detailed info to work out if my hardware will work, can someone post a link please? I've run out of nice ways to say this, so please don't be upset. There is no right place for posts like this, they are generally considered clutter. The links you need are simple: wiki.osx86project.org forum.insanelymac.com Please, please, please look it up for yourself, try it, when you have a problem, research that too, try to find the answers for yourself, there are 3 years worth of posts from what is now about 200,000 members here, there is very little that hasn't been covered before. If you finally discover that despite searching, researching, trying solutions & failing you are utterly stuck, the process of getting there will at least provide you with the knowledge & information to ask the right question.
