I'm having the same problem, USB device (e.g. iPhone) shows up in System profiler but never connects as storage, doesn't shop up in itunes

Same problem with TomTom go, USB HDD's, Pendrives etc.

I'm also on a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-EP35-DS4) & Kalyway 10.5.2.

Updating to 10.5.3 didn't help either.

Edit: I have disabled USB legacy support in the BIOS and tried all the devices on multiple USB ports. Same issue each time.

I did get the tomtom to connect once (having it powered on during a reboot), however it would not re-connect again.

Restarting with the device attached works for me, however removing it and reattaching it loses it again. Since restarting isn't always convenient, you can also do this:

In the terminal type:

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext

Now attach your device and it should be found. This only lasts temporarily though, and after a few insertion/removals of the device it will no longer be found and you have to type the command again.

HTH

Been playing about with this a bit more, I noticed the following in the system log (/var/log/system)

Jun 1 14:33:09 mac kextd[10]: a different version of dependency extension /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Mach.kext is already loaded

Jun 1 14:33:29 mac kernel[0]: USBF: 10772.426 AppleUSBHubPort: Port 1 of Hub at 0xfd000000 about to terminate a busy device (iPhone) after waiting 10 seconds

As i'm new to the whole osx thing, i'm a bit unsure where to go from here, google isn't helping! Any suggestions appreciated.

EDIT: Found the answer, all works now:

system.kext version didn't match the kernel version I was running. This is a problem with the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD :censored2:

Solution from the thread below, there's some really smart people around!
