meguro
I erase a 10.4.3 volume in 10.4.4 using diskutility and then install a the 10.4.4 system. It could not boot up. I got some EFI related errors. I re-partition the harddisk in 10.4.3 system(bootable CD) and install a 10.4.4. it works. So I just suspect the 10.4.4 is not good to prepare the volume for bios booting. shedt
can anyone else confirm this? I have two 10.4.4 install dvd's but no 10.4.3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10552-do-not-partitionerase-your-volume-under-1044-or-higher/#findComment-66371 Share on other sites
altern8energy
perhaps this is why those of us that are installing with the 10.4.4 DVD are seeing no bootup after the completed install. if we leave the 10.4.4 DVD in it will come up with the notorious missing file. I am downloading a 4.3 version and I will try to partition and format with that version, then swap DVDs to do a 10.4.4 install... -Altern8energy- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10552-do-not-partitionerase-your-volume-under-1044-or-higher/#findComment-66375 Share on other sites

antrunix
We know that a patch fixes this : MYZAR at Demonoid made a PPF to overcome this issue that a 10.4.4 iso floating on a torrent has got. But the leaker has warned people of that. So why are you wondering? DU is messed up.... MacN00b
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I got the 10.4.4 Patched DVD and it won't boot for me either. I have to boot from the dvd, press f8, and then do the rd=disk0s2 to get it to boot. Now that I think about it, I only have one hard drive in my PC with one partition. Shouldn't that be disk0s1 and not disk0s2? Everytime I format the drive (using Disk Utility on the DVD) it always sets the partition to s2. That could be the problem. ibm-apple
ibmapple well, so i only have to create an active partition and install mac os x86 on it? i made it active after it was installed with win98 disc and then it booted ok. i also dir fdisk or format /mbr (make boot record) which may have helped too. iMac
hey, problem here too...i booted up 10.4.4 from dvd and then deleted all partitions and created 1 for mac format. after that install was sucessfully completed and after boot - nothing. cursor was just blinking top of corner. in OS X setup I deleted all partitions. then i ran my win xp setup and it didn't recornize my HDD, linux either. i did "fdisk /mbr" in win 98 command promt, but that did't fix that. only win 98 and mac can recornize my HDD, and no one else. so i can install windows 98, but not xp or other linux. right now i'm downloading 10.4.3 and try this disk utility. is there any suggestions? altern8energy
apparently the 10.4.4 DVD Disk Utility is fugged.. the 10.4.3 Disk Utility partions the harddrive with the right device ID name which is disk0s1. I partitioned my hard drive with the 10.4.3 DVD and then booted up the 10.4.4 installer DVD. It completed and then rebooted ok... only problem is my test box was a HP VL420. The onboard NIC wasn't recognized, so networking was not configurable.. I'll have to try this on a newer HP box like a 7100 or 7600 serious business PC and see what happens.. -Altern8energy- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10552-do-not-partitionerase-your-volume-under-1044-or-higher/#findComment-67249 Share on other sites
