The whole premise here is wrong..

"no-patches" = get a Mac. There is no such thing as a "no-patches" PC, And if your motivation for seeking one is to have an easy install, then youve misunderstood. its the patches that make it work nice on your hardware.

At the very least you will need to add dsmos & remove a coupls of other kexts, If you dont want to add nvinject or alcinject you need to generate EFI strings & add to your boot plist. chances are youll want a couple of other tweaks, especially if you want things like sleep & networking & time machine to work properly.

In order to install from a retail DVD you need a working OS X install beforehand anyhow, so unless you have a Mac you can connect your harddrive to or a pc already installed you ll need a patched dvd to install from, and patching the dvd yourself is currently only possible with... a working OS X install...

So sure, if you want to go that way, its possible, and pretty much all the listed core2/intel boards in the wiki will work.

Generally though, there is quite a good reason why people use the prepatched dvds.

Absolutely. Of course you need to do some patching, it's a PC, not a Mac!! But the patches work really well, and the experience you get is basically nearly the same as a mac.

BTW IATKOS is my favourite Mac OS X release, (although I'm sure all the other prepatched versions are great too)

Thank you very much for your response! That information was very helpful.

What I am looking for is a motherboard that has a very good support for Leopard 10.5.2 (and future builds, like the upcoming 10.5.3).

A board where most things will work OOB (audio, network, etc.) using (as most as possible) Leopard vanilla kexts and (Apple stock) kernel.

A board where most (99%) Apple Software Updates will be safe to install.

I know I need to add dsmos and remove other kexts. And I know how nvinject, alcinject or EFI strings work.

There are excellent guides on this forum explaining how to do the install process.

Do you have any recommendation on what board to buy?

"Any modern motherboard with an intel-based chipset and a Core 2 Duo type" is too generic for me.

What about the chipset? P35 appears to be very good. And are more recent chipsets like X38 OK?

I need your opinions. Please!

Thanks

ARGH! what does it take to get through to you?

You want support for future builds? sure, let me get my crystal ball out & check for you.

For all your other questions USE THE WIKI, the whole point of having an HCL is so we dont have endless "what hardware should I get?" or "will my hardware work?" topics like this.

All youre doing here is asking someone to do your homework for you when you have all the same textbooks that they do.

True EFI emulation was a highly sought after asset for the OSx86 community. Previous efforts based upon Apple’s open source Darwin Project and Hackintosh gurus allowed users to enjoy OS X on normal PCs, with patched kernels/kernel modules which simply bypassed EFI. Using the EFI patch, Hackintoshes could boot off "vanilla" (unmodified) OS X kernels and use vanilla kernel extensions, allowing the system to be compatible with future system updates , and giving increased stability

Am I dreaming?

Yup, as were the people who wrote that.

10.5.1 -> 10.5.2 didn't work like that (as you would know if you did some research) & 10.5.3 isn't out yet so who knows.
