toolshed
USB hot-plug was working just fine (card reader, iPod, etc.) I have applied iPod updates, iLife updates, etc. So something changed. I did not notice exactly when it stopped working. If I plug the devices in before powering up the 'hack USB devices appear. Anyone have this specific problem? adamsweeting
Is IOUSBMassStorage.kext running?
toolshed
Noob question: how do I check its running or not?
adamsweeting
Open a terminal, then type: kextstat | grep IOUSBMa If it returns something that looks like this: 109 0 0x5afe7000 0xa000 0x9000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass (2.0.0) <55 38 22 12> Then it's running, and you've got another issue. If it returns nothing, then it's more than likely that your issue is because the kext isn't loaded. To load the kext manually navigate to the Extension folder (in terminal type cd /System/Library/Extensions then hit return) Then type sudo kextload IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext and hit return. Should come back with "kext loaded successfuly" Then you should have USB working

toolshed
Well, I rebooted, and USB hotplug now seems OK.
pootn20
I had the same prob w/ the usb not hot plugin, the kext load command worked! How exciting, but how do I make it load every time I boot up? OH and I'm new to this so this site has been incredibly awesome to me. If I had money, I'd donate. There should be a process to have a kext loaded at a certain point of start up, like .bat from windows or something, huh?
