Simon Jackson
Hello all, I have Vista x64 installed on a separate hard drive. Vmware detects the partition as a "boot camp partition". However, when i boot up the partition, I get the following error: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode. Vmware's website says they support 64 operating systems. Do i need to manually edit the VMX file? If so what do i add? Ill paste whats in there now: config.version = "8" virtualHW.version = "6" scsi0.present = "TRUE" scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic" memsize = "512" MemAllowAutoScaleDown = "FALSE" ide0:0.present = "TRUE" ide0:0.fileName = "Boot Camp partition.vmdk" ide1:0.present = "TRUE" ide1:0.autodetect = "TRUE" ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw" floppy0.present = "FALSE" ethernet0.present = "TRUE" ethernet0.connectionType = "nat" ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000" ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE" usb.present = "TRUE" ehci.present = "TRUE" sound.present = "TRUE" sound.fileName = "-1" sound.autodetect = "TRUE" pciBridge0.present = "TRUE" isolation.tools.hgfs.disable = "TRUE" suspend.disabled = "TRUE" displayName = "Boot Camp partition" guestOS = "winvista" nvram = "Boot Camp partition.nvram" deploymentPlatform = "windows" virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted" snapshot.disabled = "TRUE" RemoteDisplay.vnc.port = "0" tools.upgrade.policy = "upgradeAtPowerCycle" powerType.powerOff = "soft" powerType.powerOn = "soft" powerType.suspend = "soft" powerType.reset = "soft" ethernet0.addressType = "generated" uuid.location = "56 4d d2 9e ba 4b 3a f1-ff e3 56 d3 b5 6c f6 42" uuid.bios = "56 4d d2 9e ba 4b 3a f1-ff e3 56 d3 b5 6c f6 42" ide0:0.redo = "" vmotion.checkpointFBSize = "16777216" checkpointFBSize = "16777216" pciBridge0.pciSlotNumber = "17" scsi0.pciSlotNumber = "16" ethernet0.pciSlotNumber = "32" sound.pciSlotNumber = "33" ehci.pciSlotNumber = "34" ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:6c:f6:42" ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = "0" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104947-vmware-fusion-and-vista-x64/ Share on other sites
sg
so what kind of hackintosh do you have? what cpu? you need a 64bit capable cpu to run 64bit apps or apps in 64bit mode. jimmyvau
In the file, whre it says guestOS=, you need to change that from winvista to winvista-64. At least I know that is one problem. If there are more, I am lost. lol I get the same error as you, but I cannot find my VM file for the Boot Camp partition. The only two that are in my Documents/Virtual Machines/ folder are the two that I created. Where were you able to find that file because I really wanna get my Vista partition up and running as a vm. I am running a 64bit compatible proc, it is an C2Quad Q6700. And yes, Leopard is running in 64bit mode. jimmyvau
Just fixed it. I edited the text to winvista-64 and also had to enable VT in my system's BIOS. Vista x64 is installing VMWare Tools while I type this. sg
for what its worth, i don't think vmware actually uses the -VT extension, they have their own faster method of doing it apparently. parallels does use -VT (which is pretty much the only reason why parallels exists and why they need a core 2 duo while vmware will run on anything even without -VT). Krazubu
Parallels can run without VT, I've used for 2 years with a Celeron D Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104947-vmware-fusion-and-vista-x64/#findComment-749626 Share on other sites
jimmyvau
I'm pretty sure that when I tried to boot vista 64 bit VMWare displayed an error message stating that I need to enable VT. I mean, I guess, that it may not use and could have just been messing with my head. Or, maybe, that it doesn't need to use VT when running in 32 bit mode, but does when running in 64 bit mode.
