Current configuration:

ASUS P5K

Q6600 (2.4ghz)

(2x1gb) 2GB OCZ DDR2-800

8800GT

Kalyway 10.5.2

Story:

So, after two days of reading and researching, I decided to build a Hacintosh. I got everything done and installed within 2 days. My first day I had tried kaly 10.5.1 with little success, because there was a lot of things not working. Then I decide to get kaly 10.5.2, and had great success, pretty much everything worked immediately, except my attansic which I solved later.

Thanks to the kalyway team and the OSX86 team of guru's, forum users, and programmers that posted much helpful information for me to get through the initial stages without even having to ask a question.

Now having past the initial hurdles, I'd like to start optimizing the system.

Things working:

Attansic L1 Ethernet card (The reason why Im posting right now)

USB ports work

8800GT I think is working since 10.5.2 is detecting both of my monitors perfectly, havent tested a program that needs a videocard yet.

Things not working:

CPU detected as a 4.3ghz processor instead of a 2.4ghz quad core.

Sleep mode doesnt work: I forced the computer to never sleep...which is my make shift fix

My questions:

1) My OSX is reading 4.3ghz, instead of 2.4ghz, does this matter? Do I even need to fix this?

2) I find that when moving windows around, they feel sluggish, and slow. When I use "Expose/spaces" the animation sequence is choppy. Is there a way to improve this? Do I need to purchase some additional ram or something? ------> Things become nice and smooth after a reboot.

3) I notice that the mouse movement on 10.5.2 is accelerated and very imprecise, is there a fix for this other than the system preferences adjustments. The mouse doesnt move predictably. The sensitivity going up and down is much lower than the sensitivity going left to right.

4) What will adding an additional 2-4gbs to my computer do? Will OSX benefit from the additional 2gbs or 4gbs making a total of 4-6gbs?

I plan to get the following:

i) Aperture 2.0 <-- Qi) anybody know if this works ?

ii) Photoshop CS3 <-- Qii) anybody know if this works as well?

I'll keep re-using this post to keep everything up to date, with questions and queries.

Thanks again OSX86/INSANELYMAC and Team Kalyway! :pirate2:

Problem with CPU reading 4.3, instead of 2.4 has been resolved. It seemed to fix itself. Shows all informations perfectly now.Does OSX need a driver specifically for the Nvidia 8800GT video card?Solved problems 1, 2, and 3...I switched from my Logitech G5 to the Apple Mighty mouse, and everything tracked nicely, and there was still a bit of acceleration, but much improved!4) :::someone plz answer my questions!!!! I think i'll post in another forum.

The 8800GT will work fine but you have to search the forums and find out how. Nobody is going to spoon-feed you the answers. You have to do some of the work yourself.

Leopard Graphics Update contains updated drivers for 8800GT. Have you installed it? This can be installed through Software Update.

RAM upgrade has mixed results, probably depends on the motherboard. Some have successfully installed 8GB RAM while others have stability issues if more than 2GB RAM. you have to try it yourself.

Aperture 2.0 and Photoshop CS3 work correctly if you use the latest AppleSMBIOS.kext from mac.nub

Re: Leopard Graphics update.

I did a search on it, and results seem questionable. Some people using Kalyway 10.5.1 comboupdate 10.5.2 seem to be having issues. Most of the people using 10.5.2. and my setup: Q6600, 8800GT, Asus P5K/B etc seem to be doing it with success, but frankly I have a bad feeling about this. Mainly cause we are in 'the grey' and there's no telling if one experiment might cause a catastrophe. Am I one to test? Yes, but wisdom tells me to leave it alone. No issues without an update, so no need to update.

I just need to test out Aperture 2.0 and CS3 now with that mac.nub kext file.

Thanks for pointing me in a direction!

Hello ddjc,

I've had no problems installing and using Aperture 2 on my Asus P5K (E4400, 2GB DDR2-800 and ATI 1950Pro). Havent tried CS3 yet (only have my OS X running for two days). I'm also using Kalyway 10.5.2, i'm not really sure about kernel (how do I check that?).

How did you solve the Attansic Lan driver problem? OS X keeps telling me after every restart that my attansic driver is installed improperly. But it just works if I make an reinstall of the drivers again.
