Hello all,

I'm relatively new to this whole Hackintosh thing, but I love the idea and am all for the project. Here's the problem I'm having:

- Installed Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel/AMD from torrent

- Normal boot: seems to be doing just fine UNTIL I get this error message: IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out

- Safe mode: works fine except no sound or Internet (I'm going to postpone that issue until I can boot normally)

I've looked this up in a couple of different places, and I've made some changes to BIOS to follow every other guide I've seen. Specifically, I've disabled HPET. (The other changes didn't seem to apply to my hardware or weren't available in BIOS.)

Here's what my system looks like:

Mobo: Asus M2N32SLI-Deluxe (with wifi)

Processor: AMD 64 5600+ dual core

Graphics: nVidia 7300GT (512MB cache; when I was installing Kalyware, I used NVInject 512)

RAM: 2x1GB Corsair DDR2

HDD: Maxtor 250GB SATA (doesn't seem to have any problems, but I'm just posting this in case you know something I don't)

Audio: onboard the motherboard, but I'm pretty sure it's AC97, which I have the kext for but which doesn't load in safe mode? (my audio hardware doesn't show up)

Also, since I got into safe mode, I've attached the System Profiler report.

Any help than can be given would be GREATLY appreciated.

Alright... have you tried just waiting a few minutes when this happens?

I get the same iokit message, and before I had to wait 5 minutes before the machine would actually startup the OS.

But then I found out that by plugging my USB firewire dongle in, or plugging in a Lan ethernet cable, this time would go from 5 minutes to 1 minute. Now it usually takes me about 1 minute and 15 seconds to boot into OSX.

I believe I should be able to startup in shorter time, and I suspect it is this IOKitWaitQuiet hangup which is slowing up the boot-time.

So if anyone has any information regarding this IOKitWaitQuiet timout thing then I am all ears...

Well, actually - mine just plain doesn't work. It looks like it's booting up, but then all I get is a mouse pointer on the screen (which I can move around) and a black screen. Beyond that, even after a couple of hours, nothing. So it appears that we aren't having the same problem, or if we are, something is vastly different.

I'm beginning to suspect that it may have something to do with AppleNForceATA. It seems to be causing the timeout.

I suspect that your problem has nothing to do with the IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out error...

Since I get that error and my machine is problem-free...

Perhaps there is some problem with the login since this happens right after the IOKitWaitQuiet error, but before the system comes up.

Try creating a new account, and switch off automatic login in accounts preferences, and then reboot...

I tried what you suggested, but it actually didn't help at all.

More specifically, my system says:

kextd[10] IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out....

Don't know if the kextd part helps, but I thought it might.

Try disabling all your USB. ALL of it, USB controller, USB 2.0, legacy, etc. The time out error will still occur, but you will be able to boot into leopard I think. After you boot in, reboot, and you can enable enable USB except for legacy and your USB will work too. Maybe this method will work.
