Belkin Wireless USB F5D7050 (rev. 3003) work fine with Ralink RT2870

I have the D-Link DWA-140 which also works with the RT2870 driver in the link above. The only problem is that it won't work during startup. So after the system (Kalyway 1.5.2) has booted, I need to plug out and plug in the adapter. If I startup using the "-f" option then the USB Wireless Utility starts, the device is there but no wireless networks are detected. Rescan doesn't help either so again I need to plug out and plug in.

Except for plugging out and plugging back in, everything appears to work fine. Has anyone else observed such behavior? Any idea how to fix this?

There seems to be quite a few people with RT2870 devices so maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've tried my best to search these forums for a solution but I haven't been successful.

By the way, these forums are great! I've managed to install OSX, dual boot with Vista and resolve a few issues all without having to make a single post... until now. So please be kind. :censored2:

I've figured out a workaround... sort of. I've added the -f switch to com.apple.Boot.plist. This way, the USB device is detected and the USBWirelessUtility starts up. I've noticed that sometimes it detects a network and connects. So I don't always have to unplug and plug back in.

If anyone's interested, it looks like this:

<dict>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>-f</string>
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>5</string>
</dict>

It's not an ideal solution but I guess it's okay until I can find a proper fix. Hopefully, Ralink will eventually provide better support for OS X.

  • 2 months later...

How do you add the -f to boot.plist?

I have a DWA 110 and I want to get it to work. I downloaded its driver, is there anything else I should download as well? Because Network does not "see" it. Only my Ethernet & Firewire are present.

Thanx

/EDIT/

I got it working by un/plugging it. But I have Kernel Panics with it. If I add the -f option will it solve my problems? banhong suggested upgrading to 10.5.3, which I'm going to do anyways, hopefully it will work fine.

Thanx
