I had the same problem on my T42.

 

You have to use the IONetworkingFamily.kext from your old 10.4.3 install. What I had to do was reinstall 10.4.3, make a copy of that file, reinstall 10.4.4, then replace the file.

 

To replace it, simply do "sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext" and put in your password. After you do that, do "sudo mv /location/of/your/old/ionetworkingfile /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext"

 

Then open the Disk Utility and repair permissions. Once you reboot, everything should work fine.
