I know that the built in Apple System 9 emulator automatically disables itself in x86 systems... I guess it won't work on our hardware. Anyone know of another emulator? Templeton Peck Posted February 28, 2006 Share Posted February 28, 2006 If the games you have are *too new* and require graphics acceleration they won't work in SheepShaver. Also SheepShaver has a pretty good built-in emulator, but don't expect Rosetta-like performance. Just a little heads up, because because it's somewhat complicated to get going. Don't get me wrong, SheepShaver is a great project, crafted by geniuses, but it's also a work-in-progress and might not be suited to your specific needs in it's current form. That said, it's a bit of a shame that Apple axed the Classic environment in OSx86. There's still lots of great OS 9 apps that have no paralells in OS X. Classic was an elegant, and fairly transparent solution for running OS 9 apps in OS X. I hope Apple either releases the source code to Classic, or gets it running on OSx86 themselves. It probably needs some patching in order to get it to jive with Rosetta, but it shouldn't be a terribly difficult thing to accomplish. And I hope they get it done by the time the Mac Pro ships (assuming the "Apple Tax" isn't too high). Side Bar: Mac Pro is to Power Mac, as MacBook Pro is to PowerBook.
