I have 10.4.3 installed on the 2nd partition of my HD. I'm going to install XP (still need it for some stuff) on the first partition, but I want to be able to get back into OSX without using the CD.

What can I add to the boot.ini file in XP so that I can choose which OS to boot into?

Edit: Would it be: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\osx="OS X" ??? The name of the partition is "osx" and it's the 2nd partition on the HD.

Also forgot to mention one other thing. I'm on a Thinkpad T42 and OSX doesn't recognize that its a laptop. Is there something I can do? If I unplug my computer, it doesn't show me any battery time or anything (don't have power options either).

Also, where can I set my resolution by default? I hate having to hit F8 during boot and typing in "Graphics Mode"= etc etc.

Also, which file do I edit so that I don't have to change the resolution via F8 during boot ("Graphics Mode"= etc etc)?

As far as how to use the XP bootloader, see this link in the WIKI.

I personally haven't put OS X on my laptop... Try searching the forum for T42 - I've seen lots of posts about that particular Thinkpad. :)

Thanks jbjonas...going through that link and some others, I found that I needed to copy chain0 from my OSX install onto my XP install's c:\ root folder.

After I did that, I added c:\chain0="Mac OS X86" to my boot.ini

Now when I boot, I get the option for XP or OSX, if I go to OSX, I have to hit enter for advanced options, then select my osx partition and it works wonders.

Now my only problem is that I upgraded to 10.4.4 before fully reading instructions and forgot to backup 10.4.3's IONetworkingFamily.kext...I tried to find it on the 10.4.3 DVD, but I couldn't so it looks like I'm going to have to reinstall 10.4.3, backup the kext, then reinstall 10.4.4...heck maybe I'll just wait for the patched 10.4.5 DVD.

My last question is: if I try to run at my LCD's native resolution of 1400x1050x32@60, I get really weird things happening if I try to drag any window. If I drag a window, the insides become a completely jarbled mess of lines and colors. I have an ATI Radeon 9600 in my T42 laptop. Any ideas?

A few seconds ago I read on another thread about the same problem with the notebook graphics. I think you should have to wait for proper drivers. I know that this issue apears when runing at high resolutions. At 1024x768 works fine but the mouse issue is still there. So wait for proper drivers, official Ati or hacked ones I think will work.
