xiberia
in 10.4.3 my usb card-reader worked perfectly: insert a card, it showed up on the desktop, remove the card, it disappeared. since 10.4.4 (and 10.4.5) my card-reader isn't recognised at all. I tired rolling back the USB kexts to 10.4.4 but still no joy. I'm having this error on -v startup, and was wondering if this is the cause of it: USBF: 14.232 EHCI controller unable to take control from BIOS USBF: 14.232 AppleUSBEHCI[0x1aa7800]: unable to obtain ownership: 0xe00002be USBF: 14.232 AppleUSBEHCI[0x1aa7800]::UIMInitialize - Error occurred (0xe00002be) USBF: 14.234 AppleUSBEHCI: unable to initialize UIM (I didn't have that error on my 10.4.3 installation) Strangely enough though, my el-cheapo Wacom-a-like XP-Pen, which is also USB, works perfectly on 10.4.5. Is there some other kext I should look into? I tried IOUSBFamily.kext and IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext, but I'm still getting the same error. What is AppleUSBEHCI?? I know there is an AppleUSBAHCI.kext, is that it? Any ideas would be welcome, because its the only thing in 10.4.5 that is wrong. thanks everyone Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10286-usb-card-reader-on-1045/ Share on other sites
xiberia
I've done some digging, and that "EHCI controller unable to take control from BIOS" appears when you use High Speed USB. Does this mean 10.4.5 doesn't support highspeed? I'm going to reboot and try switching my usb down to fullspeed, see if that fixes it. Occurs to me that if x86 doesn't support highspeed usb then its a bit.... 1990s... innit? xiberia
i tried the 10.4.3 IOUSBFamily and IOUSBMassStorageClass, and my card (usb drives) shows up on a -v boot, but if I insert a card into it then it still doesn't mount it. Damn, I should have stuck with 10.4.3, it worked fine then.. any other kexts connected to usb storage devices?
