Hi,

i've just read that article at engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/30/psystar...arks-and-video/

I wanted to build almost the same Hackintosh like the one from Psystar but now i have some doubts about it. They wrote that it's really really loud :

It's LOUD. Crazy loud. OS X doesn't seem to interface with the fan controller, so it runs at full tilt all the time. It doesn't really come across on the video, but it's loud enough so that it's hard to talk on the phone when the machine is running. There's no way we could deal with this thing on a daily basis.
So my question is, where is the problem ? Maybe I should change some components ? Is there any mobo which can handle cpu speed like "Speedstep" in notebooks ?

I would like to build quiet hackintosh. How do your pc's act concerning fan speed ? Do you also have problem with noisy fans ?

Did you read what i wrote ? I know that there are problems with that hardware, so I'd like to hear some opinions from users about it (e.g. did they made it quiet in some way, or maybe someone has other hardware which is compatible with leo and fans doesn't work at full speed all the time). It's obvious that i want to know it BEFORE I buy it. I don't want to change my hardware few days laters, because it doesn't satisfy me. If you don't know answer for my questions, just don't reply.

Building a quiet PC is a well-known technique, thoroughly covered on many sites throughout the net. If quiet is what you want, build quiet.

If a psystar is what you want, buy one & good luck. If not, don't..

Please don't go asking meaningless questions about a machine no-one here has, nor any self-respecting osx86 enthusiast would buy (because you can build better yourself for less).

...because you can build better yourself for less

That's why I'm asking. I don't want to buy it from psystar, I want to build one, but I need specification for hardware which is most compatible, and needs minimal patching.

I thought that their specification was pretty good if they sell it. But if you have any ideas, what components would be better, please write. Ofcourse my biggest problem is mobo...

And there is another thing. Their fans go at full speed all the time, so I wanted to know do you have the same problem with YOUR hardware.

Well excuse my cynicism, but it is may day & I am one of the downtrodden workers of this site..

This entire forum is full of advice on what to get, how to build it, and how to fix the problems.. you must be the zillionth person to come looking for the "works great without patching" machine.. those people should buy a mac.

To reiterate to the point of mind-destroying boredom: nothing in osx86 works at all, without patching. if you think it does, it's because someone else did the patching for you. "A minimum of patching" just means that you want your food pre-chewed. Now you want someone else to do the searching and research & decision making and trial & error for you too?

Either *you* are building a machine, or someone else is. If it's you, then pick a cpu and motherboard chipset, pick a graphics card, consult the wiki, search the forums for those components and see how they work for others, get it running, come back and share your experience, but don't sit there & whine that no-one wants to do it all for you.

This is a resource base, not a helpline.

You're my hero...this rant needs to be the first thing ANYONE new to this site reads...

That machine is loud because it's poorly built garbage. Just look at the pics of the inside of it. Thrown together {censored}. I could take those same components (minus the garbage fans and power supply) and make it so quiet you could hear a mouse fart.
