cyrana
I know the SIIG card comes w/the dev systems... But, I noticed a few people make cards that will let you use the PCI-e slot on a 915 system to get a 2nd display dvi. Do they work or is it just the SIIG Orion one that does? paulmoscow
I've read these cards have a kind of driver in their firmwares that the 915 chipset can load and execute during boot up. If I understand it correctly, everything must work fine, but when you need dual display configuration you have to install additional drivers for OS. mcCoy
this asus card should work, i looks exactly the same as my silicon image orion, actually, i believe it is a silicon image orion... http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/mb_accessories.htm goto "DVI-ADD2" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1019-does-only-the-siig-dvi-add-2-card-work/#findComment-6349 Share on other sites
cyrana
THanks, Paul. That makes sense... So I'd need the SIIG one for dual displays, then. That Asus looks correct, but it isn't a low profile card from what I can tell... At least the bracket looks wrong. ccihon
I'm thinking of trying an ADD2 adapter on a Dell 4700 (915G) and hoping I can drive a 20" flat panel at 1600x1200 in both OSX and WinXP - dual displays would be gravy....any one have any first hand experience with an ADD2 and OSx86? cyrana
They are already known to work. I'm just trying to clarify if the SIIG chipset one is necessary, which it looks to be. ccihon
I've researched the cards on Intel's site among others and they indicate a partnership with SIIG, Molex, and somebody else.....not sure on the Asus one, but the Molex cards seem to have the SI Chip...maybe they all do? Notice on this page about the Molex cards, theu reference the "Sil1364" http://www.molex.com/cgi-bin/bv/molex/inde...ct/io/add2.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1019-does-only-the-siig-dvi-add-2-card-work/#findComment-6528 Share on other sites

I know there is a Dell-branded one (J4570 and J4751) that have the SIIG chipset on them, which I was going to try. Hope someone here has some experience with anything aside from the 'name brand' SIIG Orion ones. ccihon
Do you have a link to the Dell ones? I'm considering a Dell system and could add it to the order. I tried searching those numbers but no dice...? I guess I should decide since I have one unuseable LCD on my desk now. (They say AGP, but that is obviously wrong...just a bad label on their part). performa
Hello, ...found this one on eBay at a modest price: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=6796320874 The seller has probably more than one, at least it is not the only one he sells / has sold on eBay... I think this should be the "right" card, is it? cyrana
Boo, lucky bugger. That looks like the supported card for sure. Too bad no one is selling them on the US ebay site right now. <_> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1019-does-only-the-siig-dvi-add-2-card-work/#findComment-6598 Share on other sites
