Hi,

I'm not sure whether this is the appropriate forum to post.

I recently dropped my MacBook by accident and there were problems with the DVD drive (it was difficult to insert a disk). Because it isn't under warranty anymore, I decided to open it and see what was the problem with this. Everything was fine, until I started assembling it back. I was almost ready, I had to only place the top case and place the screws when I discovered that the chasis wasn't exactly straight and there was problems placing the top case. I had to remove the keyboard connector again and then fix the problem with the chasis. Be warned, these connectors are very fragile. I successfully tore the cable from the connector in no time (and I was careful! :-( )

The good news is that this cable is easily replaceable. The bad news is that I can't find anyone providing such cables. Apple will provide only the whole assembly, so when I take this to service, they'll most probably ask to pay for the whole top case.

So, is there anybody that have access to these cables? I was made to believe that Apple doesn't require the services to send them the keyboards they replace, so there is a good chance someone has an access to not so good-looking keyboard with perfectly working ribbon cable, which connects the top case to the logic board.

I'm still hoping that the service I intend to visit in two days will have a keyboard or two lying around, but I don't expect much.

They don't sell the cable separately, you have to buy the whole assembly... which really sucks, imho.

Maybe you could contact the tech in this thread:

I contacted him, but a user from the forum sent me a note warning that the user hasn't sent him the requested cables. I decided to not risk and hoped that the local service will have a dead keyboard lying around. Too bad they haven't:( I already ordered full top case replacement.

Meanwhile, the user, who warned me, has received his cables several months later, so it seems Waragainstsleep is shipping cables.

I posted the message here, searching for someone else, who has access to dead keyboards, but nobody showed up.
