Matt,

Thank you so much for putting up a great tutorial, but I have one problem. I have to boot into leopard via -x. I get a grey screen with a mouse cursor otherwise. I just installed forcedeth, so that may have fixed the issue, I will let you know. Here is my system specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ ClawHammer 2.2GHz

CORSAIR XMS 2GB Dual Channel Ram

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

PNY 7600 GS Video Card

Also... I have a SATA drive that I would like to use as the primary instead of this small 20 GB drive. I have a SYBA Sata controller (its a VIA chipset) And I was wondering if theres drivers out there, I haven't looked throughly yet, but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome. Thank you once again for creating this amazing guide.

Matt, thanks very much for your post and Installation guide on Kalyway 10.5.2

I have a couple of questions:

1. I installed both Kalyway 10.5.2 and found the problem I had exactly consistent with Zephyroth 10.5.2

and 10.5.2 v2.

Consistently I got Network errors stating that the wrong url was entered. This was a very wierd error. I Googled this problem to death, for days. Could never find a solution. Never could connect to my other Mac or windows machines.

My MB is an Asus A8N-Sli board, with an AMD Opteron 185 CPU, 4 gigs of Corsair DDR 400. EVGA Nvidia 640mb Sli Video Card.

My installation is very consistent with your explanation.

Can you please tell me how you got around the Networking Errors.

I also ended up getting a 3rd party Trendnet Nic card, as I gave up on the Forcedeth driver with onboard Nic.

Also, I ended up going back to Zephyroth's 10.5.1 because of not ever being able to solve this Networking issue.

I have been running stable for months with everything working on Zephyroth 10.5.1. But now since yesterday, I am continuing to crash and can't for the life of me figure out why.

I realize these are two separate issues.

Please forgive if I posted anything wrong or inappropriate here.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Miche Bre

Hi,

I am trying to install Kalyway 10.5.2 AMD_Intel release on my system but get this error:

"Still waiting for root device"

I followed your steps & removed the SATA drive but I still get this error:

Here's my system config:

AMD 64 X2 3800+

Asus M2NPV-MX (nForce 430 Geforce 6150)

RAM- 512 MB * 2, 1 GB *2

1 IDE DVD drive

1 IDE HDD, 1 SATA HDD

Here are the screenshots

Matt,

Could I get the Marvell kext?

can you email me at tank dot 863 at gmail dot com ?

I'm installing tonight and would like a compete working project.

Thanks again for the excellent guide.

Tank863

So yeah, I updated my original post... the "new" forcedeth-v driver that leo4allv3 claims to have is in fact the same as the one I link to in my guide.

BUT I have a working Marvell kext now!!! If any of you would like to try that and unload your supposedly hampered forcedeth.kext, I can upload it. Let me know!

--Matt--

Just a quick update... installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on my machine..

ASUS A8n-Sli Deluxe

4GB OCZ Memory

2 256MB nVidia 6600GT (SLI)

etc...

the only problem I can see is that I'm not getting sound.

I've researched this entire site, followed numerous bits of advice and still cannot get the sound to work.

I was able to get the marvell ethernet port to work.

I was able to sync my iPhone after patching the USB.

any advice on sound?

I have the AC97 enabled.. I also have a Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS i the system...

i downloaded kalyway 10.5.2 and burned it on to a dvd, but when i try to boot from it, nothing happens it just continues onto to windows, i can see the files on the dvd through macdrive and have changed my bios to boot from cd first, i have a hp dv6748us laptop any ideas thanks

When I first tried to install Leopard I got the error that comes because of the burning speed, burned it again and then I finished the installation with no errors but when I tried to boot I got the apple sign,10 seconds of loading and than it tells me to restart my computer...

I restarted my computer and tried to boot it on verbose mode and the error I got was:

forcedeth: Starting transmit/receive engines

forcedeth: Network link down

Jul 29 11:52:22 localhost root[79: Recreating System.keychain because it cannot unlock; see /usr/libexec/security-checksystem

What did I do wrong?

Should I try to install it w/o the forcedeth driver?

Thanks in advance,Stav!

Hi ho.

I have also the same problem with the root device.

I am more as sure that i do anything right in the bios options.

I disabled SATA complete in bios.

After it i tryed to reboot the pc and boot from the DVD (HDD and DVD devices are both set as master device)

I pressed F8 start with -v and get all the nice messages.

And then...... Still waiting for root device....

My hardware:

AMD 64 3000+

MSI K8N Neo4-f

3GB DDR (DDR1)

Nvidia Geforce8800GT PCIE 256MB DDR3

HDD: 80GB Samsung IDE

Any ideas?

Thank you all in advanced

KR

Sada

[EDIT]

Hmm. I find out that the bootdevice UUID everytime is the same? o0

hehe..

I found a 6,4GB Samsung IDE HDD in my desk... so i thought i take this hdd....

I start the computer again and saw a message:

Waiting for boot volume with UUID 804603D3-[...]

This messeage btw. the UUID is the same like my 80GB Samsung IDE HDD.

Is that right? o0

[END EDIT]

I've had no problems with the installation and everything worked fine(excpect for the fact that my computer would boot osx first unless i chose to load the other os which was windows xp), but i no longer want to have a mac on my pc due to my recent purchase of a macbook air, i would like to know how to unstall osx and have my pc running xp, I already have xp on one partition and would just like the osx partion to be removed and back to ntfs.

any help would be much appreciated as i don't know how to do this stuff unless i have written instructions.

thanks

When i boot this DVD it goes to loading "Extensions.mkext" & the the computer just restarts. I have successfully Installed "ATKOS 10.5.4 V4a (AMD)" Before, but not this.

My system is:

Asus K8N4-E Mobo,

Sempron 2800+ CPU (SSE3)

IDE Hdd

IDE + USB DVD-ROM (Tried Booting DVD OFF Both)

Any Ideas ???

Also, When I press -x (safemode) it goes through a minute or so of files and then restarts the PC.

Matt this will probably be a quick answer for you. I'm trying the same thing and I've followed the tutorial but I have the ASUS a8v motherboard (which has an AGP graphics slot).

I'm running a radeon 9200.. I can install OS X fine using Kalyway but when it boots I get a blank screen and my monitor goes to sleep. My gfx card isn't compatible with OS X, is it?

I am able to get to step 23. The installation is successful. However, I don't know what to do after that. On Restart, if I take out the DVD it just throws errors at me. Step 24 says to pick my HD. I'm not sure how to do that. Any help offered would be awesome.

Thanks for the response, CaBuffalo. I finally got it to work. I think the problem had something to do with GRUB. I was trying to tri-boot with Windows, Ubuntu and OSx86. I ended up deleting Ubuntu and restoring the MRB. I reinstalled OSx86 and am now good to go. My ethernet works, but I don't have any sound. That's next on the list to fix. Hopefully, when I reinstall Ubuntu (and grub) this time, it will work???
