Hey everyone,

Just got done building an easy hackintosh build for those interested.CHEAP too! Probably cheapest around but runs super fast!

The motherboard I used is great b/c everything works out of the box.

ECS 945GCT-M (V1.0) Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - 45.00!

Make sure you get the 1.0 version of the mobo b/c it works better than the 3.0...Can't beat the price on this mobo!

I got an Intel Pentium E2160 1.8GHz LGA 775 65W Processor for $70.00...this processor hauls it for all the apps I throw at it. Plus you can overclock it even though I hear overclocking in unix doesn't help. But RAM does so load up on RAM.

I got the cheapest 2gb ram newegg had for the mobo...so any will work as long as it fits the mobo.

Just about any NVIDIA pci express card will work...I went cheapo and got the Biostar 8600 512 MB that performs great.

I went with an IDE HD I had laying around to save some cash...and an IDE dvd multi drive. But again you can go sata if you want.

The most important factors you want to stay with is the MOBO and getting a DUAL CORE CPU. I have heard that pentium d processors work as well but I can't promise it will so be safe and get a cheap 50-70 dual core if you can afford it.

I used the newest Kalaway install DVD for this...went perfecto. Everything runs so darn fast...and to top if off you gotta get a Mac Pro Case...plus it comes with a 500 watt PS!

Don't listen to all the bad reviews its an awesome plastic/aluminum case.

Can't beat 32 buckaroos.

Again EVERYTHING will work out of the box...sound...network ect...easy breezy.

Hope this helps. if you have any questions at all please pm or ask me!

Enjoy!

Yea this ECS board seems to rock...and I love it even more since OSX works out of the box! Rebooting and shutting down works like a charm. It even sleeps. I haven't checked to see if others are on the network but I bet you it will allow it...I will have to try it...

=)

good luck to you!

Sounds intriguing. What distro did you install from?

Antex P182 but don't get the mirror finished one (all they have at newegg at the moment) look for the gun metal version. I bought it for $80 when it went on sale at zipzoomfly.com My last case was so noisy and had so many lights it annoyed the hell out of me. This new case though is dead quiet.

I can honestly walk into my room now and not even realize my computer is on (when the screen shuts off). That is how quiet this thing is! My last one was like a plane taking off and this case I have now has to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. The case is built as thick as a high end server and dampens sound a lot and has really good air flow with large fans that move a lot air.

Provide your own power supply.

Yea I like the other case b/c its cheap and looks like a Mac Pro case. If I had 300 bucks to blow that Antec is sure top notch =) but I was trying to take a cheap route to save some money and just got lucky I found a cheap Mac Pro Case clone lol...

Yea it stinks the ram maxes out at 2GB never realized that but o well thats enough for me to play with all my hackintosh stuff...
