earlboy
Have both zephyroth leopard v1 & v2 (in separate partition) running without problems except for panics when network is under heavy load. My DS107e has firefly installed, the music share can be seen in my Macbook (Running Tiger) and I can play them without problems. Now when I run iTunes in my OSX86 box (zephyroth), the share does not appear. I've tried replacing my forcedeth driver to a slower but much stabler version and I've even went as far as downgrading my iTunes to the same version in my Macbook, but still can't see the shared music of my media server. Smb shares from my DS107e works fine I can see and access them in my osx86 box. Can anyone help? earlboy
I found several suggestion here in the forum, it included a utility from apple called ConfomanceTest. I ran the utility and my OSX86 box failed. Now after running the test, my SMB shares cannot be seen as well. I can still connect to the server by manually connecting to it (Finder->Go->Connect to Server) though. From all the post I've read regarding this problem, it seems that the lan driver is causing it, and updating the driver did the trick for them, but that was for an RTLxxxx chip. I'm using forcedeth driver, and havent found any post with the same issues I'm having. I'm going to try and put a lan card in my rig, to verify if it is really the forcedeth driver that's causing it. I'll search this forum for the most compatible lan card that is available in my area and try it. Will report back my findings later. thanks. earlboy
Update : I've replaced my lan with an intel 82557 based card, both afp and samba shares are now appearing in my finder. Itunes can now see the share music library in both my NAS. As for the samba share disappearing before (when I was using the nForce lan), it was caused by my DS107e becoming the master browser, but when my other NAS device ( a lacie minidisk ) became the master browser the share reappeared. It looks like the samba server in my DS107e is a bit flaky, because whenever it is the master brosser, I get an error when I issue a "nmblookup -M -- -." in the command line. I don't get any errors with nmblookup when the lacie minidsk is the master browser.
