Canglan
Hi all, I've managed to successfully installed 10.4.4 on my laptop. Mac OS X is the only OS on the laptop, and I can't boot it from hard drive, all I get is a black blank screen with an underscorre blinking at the top left corner of the screen. Every time I boot I have to have my installation DVD in the dvd drive in order to get the OS booted. I HAVE tired searching on the forums here but didn't get any working solutions on how to fix this problem, as I don't have any other operating systems installed with osx. Can anyone help me out? Thanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10096-can-only-boot-from-the-installation-dvd/ Share on other sites

Jared Kipe
Could this be the same problem? http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=10051 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10096-can-only-boot-from-the-installation-dvd/#findComment-63251 Share on other sites
Canglan
So is there anyway to fix this problem other than to install Linux/Windows and use their bootloaders(grub/boot.ini, etc)? Jared Kipe
Does that mean it loads OSX via the install DVD like I said or by typing in rd=disk0s1 ? Canglan
Does that mean it loads OSX via the install DVD like I said or by typing in rd=disk0s1 ? Yes it loads via the DVD. I've tried your F8 trick it doesn't work for me, it just stays at the blank screen. Jared Kipe
Very weird, glad the it works for you. Mine kernel panics every time I try the rd=disk0s1 at the boot: screen. Canglan
Well, apparently loading from DVD isn't a big deal. However, I wanted to upgrade my 10.4.4 to 10.4.5 using the Maxxuss instruction. The problem is, when I boot via '-s', it does go to the single user mode, HOWEVER, the disk to be able to mount is disk3s1, which is the DVD drive. :-( That's why I'm desperately need the boot problem to be solved asap. Please, if you know how to fix it let me know, even if it's complicated. I'm more than happy to learn. Jared Kipe
use hdiutil go cd .. untill you get to the lowest director then type in cd /dev hdiutil eject disk3 (for you, for me its disk1) <put in new cd> hdiutil mount disk3s0 (maybe disk3s1 or something I'm no expert) Please PM me, I'd like to discuss 10.4.5 EDIT: I mean put back in the disk and do hdiutil mount disk3 and it should show you the table, I'm sure you'll figure it out Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10096-can-only-boot-from-the-installation-dvd/#findComment-63695 Share on other sites
Jared Kipe
I was able to install 10.4.5 without using my CD drive at all, but I have solved the boot loader problem here http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=10265 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10096-can-only-boot-from-the-installation-dvd/#findComment-64064 Share on other sites
