1) You need to download NVinstaller v41

2) Double click on the NVInstallerV.41.pkg installer package and select:

* Latest kext and framework (90 Mb)

* 256 Mb vanilla (36 kb)

* Netkas 10.5.2 kernel (if you are using patched kernel with your leopard)

3) When installer finish, DONT RESTART, go to /System/Library/Extensions and delete or backup your NVinject.kext.

4) Download this EDITED NVinject.kext:

NVinject.kext.zip

5) Unzip and copy NVinject.kext in /System/Library/Extensions

6) Open Terminal and type

(you can use Kext Helper too instead of type this commands in terminal)

sudo -s press enter and type your password

Repair NVinject.kext permissions:

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext

7) Delete Extensions.mkext from /System/Library

8) Restart and you have full working 8400GS with CI & QE and full resolution change.

Looking to try and use a 8400GS (non-mac version) in a real mac pro (trying to go cheap as possible)... Need one extra DVI (for 3rd monitor) & don't want to pay for another expensive video card... Will this kext / instructions work for a real mac? Can't find much detail on the subject...

I have a 8800GT (mac version) & the 8400GS (non-mac version) in the mac pro now & the mac pro sees the cards like this:

I added the NVinstaller v.41 to my laptop with an 8400M GT and it works!! YAY, however...only my HDMI output works, well I haven't tried my VGA output yet, but seriously, my laptop display doesn't work. Although I am very happy that HDMI works, I didn't think that would have happened considering everyone's DVI port hasn't worked.

I'm almost there I just know it! Is there a way I can have OSX detect my laptop monitor and display on that? I tried using system preferences, but it only shows the monitor hooked up via HDMI.
