casper Posted February 25, 2006 Share Posted February 25, 2006 Boots fine and starts installer, but cannot find hard drive when I go into Disk Utilities only shows DVD drive. Specs Fujitsu Lifebook. S7000 Pentium M 740 2 GHz Intel 815 chipset DDR2 ram Intel 900 GMA Video 80 GB serial ATA 5400 using Intel 82801 All specs are close to Dev Specs. When I go into System Profiler from installer screen and check serial ATA it shows "No information found". Very depressing getting as far as the pretty installer screen and then ??? Any help would be greatly appreciated ... please. I started with Marklar-Tiger dmg file and created iso and then ran Marlar-Tiger-patch-release1 ppf and all checksums were correct, created DVD and here I sit ... Thanks in advance ... searching like crazy. Sorry, should add that laptop currently has XP installed with two partitions, one is NTFS and the other is unformatted if that matters because I believe it still should be able to see the drive? jbjonas Posted February 25, 2006 Share Posted February 25, 2006 Hmmm, are you sure it's an 815 chipset? the 815 has ICH or ICH0 bridge, so that would definitely not work with SATA. However, the manufacturer says that your laptop has a 915GM chipset, which uses the ICH-6M bridge. That one supports SATA in OS X just fine according to the wiki, under technical faq. I'm lost as to why it's not working for you in 10.4.1, though. What I would suggest is trying the 10.4.3 8F1111A build with JaS' v4.2b patch. I think the consensus is that it runs better than 10.4.1 anyway, and I can vouch that it has better overall hardware support (especially with all the patches that JaS included as base patches). You are right on the 915 ... working on two computers at one = typos ) I did more searching and found something from jtle who was using the same 82801 SATA setup as me. He made changes in his bios and this thought had hit me earlier but I had discounted it ... bad move. When into the bios under SATA and removed enhancements and now the drive was found just fine. I blowing away the drive and hopefully things will move smooth from here. Once again, thanks so much for trying. Take Care . jbjonas Posted February 25, 2006 Share Posted February 25, 2006 no problem, glad to see it working. I'd still suggest checking out 10.4.3 if you get the chance. I've seen alot of T42 users on here (I've been pondering putting OS X on my T30) maybe you can ask some of them if 10.4.3 worked better or what (especially concerning wireless cards...)
