sse
FYI: followed maxxuss' alternative instructions - directly updated 10.4.4 couldn't mount the update dmg (load_hdi: timed out waiting for driver to load),simply copied the pkg to / "optimizing system performace" made my system freeze at exactly 50% - rebooted, applied the patches can't change the resolution from sys prefs, got 1600x1200 via kernel flag, ci and qe supported. so far, everthing seems to work fine, xbench result: 100.30 BUT: the sigmatel isn't recognized again, the fix that worked for 10.4.4 - using the kexts from 10.4.3 (AppleHDA, Apple02Audio, AppleAC97Audio) didn't do the trick this time. i will post if i find a solution - and of course would appreciate it if someone else does and would post it here or elsewhere and not to forget: big ups to maxxuss for his great work! sse
UPDATE: ok, so i went to get one of those cheapo usb audio plugs, just to find out that usb audio doesn't work either >_< relevant kernel msgs follow: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin. Couldn't alloc class "ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin" Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AudioIPCDriver. Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleHDA. Couldn't alloc class "AppleHDACodecGeneric" Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleMLANAudio. Couldn't alloc class "AppleMLANAudioDevice Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AudioIPCDriver. Couldn't alloc class "com_apple_driver_AudioIPCDevice" Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleUSBAudio" has no kernel dependency. Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleUSBAudio. Couldn't alloc class "AppleUSBAudioDevice" Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleUSBAudio" has no kernel dependency. Couldn't alloc class "AppleUSBAudioEngine" my solution for now: i completely relaced my Extensions dir with the one from 10.4.4 and now it's all working again, sound is working, i can change the resolution from the prefs pane, and even my cpu frequency is displayed correctly again in "about this mac", showed 4ghz instead of 3.2 with the 10.4.5 kexts. i wonder if anyone else experiences these kinda flaws Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10060-1045-uprunning-stac9220-again-broken/#findComment-63176 Share on other sites

Same happened to me: load_hdi timed out (manually loaded IOHDIXController.kext with kextload and got rid of it) optimizing system performance hung at 50%, rebooted with the 10.4.1 (or 10.4.3 don't know) DVD and fixed from there. Also removed CHUD kexts because they were crashing the kernel at the very boot process.
