hatchling
I am having a strange problem with my WUSB54GC linksys wireless usb adapter that I have not been able to find any other threads about. I installed the ralink drivers and at first I could see it in the system profiler but not in the included network utility. After a bit of fooling around I was able to get the network utility to connect to a network, send and recieve packets, but I still can not get online. In the statistics it is showing that all the recieved packets are getting CRC errors. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas of how to fix this? P.S.: I started mac-hacking about two weeks ago, and what a long, strange journey its been. It must've taken me nearly a dozen tries with 2 or 3 different distros of osx86 before I got one that worked (you guessed it, kalyway). It is running very stable on my dell inspiron 6000 now and if I could just get the wireless working I would have a functional OSX that I would be very happy about being able to use on a regular basis...however, if you can't network a computer, you basically just have an expensive word processor. So far its been an awesome learning experience, and probably about an even ration of fun & frustration. Just my thoughts on osx86. I think i'll be sticking around, anyway All replies are appreciated!! -H Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/100560-wusb54gc-crc-error/ Share on other sites
snifferdog
Me too Same dongle, same problem. Presumably you got your drivers from the Ralink site and tweaked the vendor and product ID's in your Info.plist file. My guess is that we are out of luck unless and until someone who knows something about device drivers looks into this issue. I know my dongle (and router) are not faulty becasue they work OK under Windows. I've been on a bit of a funky journey too, and like you I am running kalyway (Leopard). Wireless networking issues aside, it seems to run very well on my Acer laptop. I even got the audio going. I just wish I could get rid of the network cable that is trailing all the way down the stairs. Have you tried plugging a network cable into your machine? It might just work. Mine did (AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext). [edit] The odd thing is that there are lots of posts floating around claiming that it works. I dug around a little more and there only seems to be the one driver (Nov 9 2006) so maybe LinkSys have changed the hardware in some subtle way. It's frustrating - it's tantalisingly close but it doesn't actually work. [/edit] [edit] I've tried everything now. I thought it might be a Leopard issue so I tracked down some later drivers (at http://www.hawkingtech.com/support/details...&ProdID=380) which claim to explicitly support Leopard. Still no dice - exactly the same symptoms. Fed up, going to bed. [/edit] [final edit] At last I have something working! I gave up on the LinkSys. There are some drivers from KisMac that work, but they are passive drivers only (for net stumbling) so they are of no use. But, tucked away in a drawer, I had a cheap no-name dongle based on the Realtek 8187 (L) chipset. You can download drivers for this dongle from Realtek's website and they work, although performance is very poor. Elsewhere on this board, people also report success with the NetGear WG111, which is based on the same chipset, although you might need the 8187B drivers (as opposed to the 8187L version that I am using); I think it probably depends on what version of the dongle you happen to get. Anyway, I hope some of this is useful and happy hacking!
