badluck
Hi there! First let me say I'm new to Mac, but I have a strong linux background so I'm not afraid of console and stuff My question is: Is it possible to have two users working simultaneously on one Leopard? I would like my friend (who uses linux) to remotely connect to my box, just like through VNC, while I'm still logged in and working on my own desktop. I've read about some trick using fast user switching, but everytime i switch users, vnc connection gets lost, and when I reconnect, I see current users desktop. My vision is that I'm working like usual, and my friend connects and disconnects to his own desktop on my machine without me even being bothered. Please tell me there is some way, same software or anything, coz I really don't wanna install windows just to do that. Thanks.
bxsci(macuser)
you can have conjoined control over the desktop using iChat
badluck
I don't want conjoined control over desktop, I want two people controlling two different desktops at the same time.
royco
Something close..currently for windows client only. Interesting read nonetheless iRAPP http://www.coderebel.com/irapp
badluck
Something close..currently for windows client only. Interesting read nonetheless iRAPP http://www.coderebel.com/irapp Looked promising, however I've encountered a serious problem. Windows client cannot connect to my mac. It just says "Please wait, loading data..." and thats it. I've tried the client on three different PC's so I guess it's something with the server. Have you ever used it, royco? badluck
Try connecting using the Macs IP instead of Computer name. I've tried that. Tried different ports, disabling firewalls and such. Client gets past authentication phase so the connection is established, it just doesn't load. I think I'll mail the author. Thanks anyway.
vladthebad
Yes... Use VINE server, and VNC client.... turn server computer on, log onto VNC user, open vine server..... fast user switch to normal user vnc into server from other computer. tada..... don't expect to do anything that does much grapics on the VNC user..... although it is safe for a windows box to surf the net this way.... VNC'd into the mac..... Also, some unexplained random hanging....... on both real macs, and hackintoshes........ couple hangs a week on a fairly heavily used home server hack that runs the network and all TV/video content for a household.... hanging could be something else though... but figured I'd mention it just in case it is VINE related like I believe. (other suspect is VLC)
badluck
Thanks Vlad, it works. Didn't see any hang ups so far, however sometimes apps like iTunes stop to respond for a few seconds.
