mackie_mac Posted September 2, 2008 Share Posted September 2, 2008 interesting guide i must say but its funny since most of it doesnt apply to me , i mean i downloaded xcode somehow through vista. I guess i will have to rely on downloading from svn on windows and then using on osx. The funny thing is that in my case in order to develop/test network drivers, from osx i need internet and both by wireless (intel 3945) and ethernet (broadcom 590x ) dont work so i am in a worse situation. I realized that having a functional network device is the most critical part of anything So though people with these devices are more prompted to help, their help in this particular case gets diminished, its almost like writing a display driver with only one laptop , no display where will you see what you are typing ;-) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It looks like only open (not encrypted) access points can be used at this time? I will post with more info when I have tested it further. I ran the networkSelector program and I was able to turn the card on (option 1), and scan for wifi networks (option 2). Unfortunately, when I typed in the network number I tried to associate with, all it says is "trying to associate". Intel 4965, the networkSelector scans and detects networks, however when I type a number it says "attempting to associate" and then goes to the main menu. P.S. i'm just missing this one and my hp webcam to have my hp dv9780ez as a perfect MAC thanks to all here in insanelymac keep the good work! cybercow Posted March 18, 2009 Share Posted March 18, 2009 Hallo, i dunno if anyone tried it, and if is of some kind of importance, but i downloaded the 2200 stabile and added the product id of the 3945 into the original 2200 kext, after doing this, the 3945 was recognised as 3rd party AirPort card, the connection showed up in the network propreties, and i get both wi-fi icons in the toolbar. I was using kalyway 10.5.2 on my hp6820s with 3945 onboard. Obviously the connection detection part not worked and was stucked in an endless loop with nsGUI. This is some kind of expected result. The 3945 is an scaled down economy version of 2200 with parts of firmware needed to be done in software, but in the other hand they have most things in common and such was the result either. I was surprised with my simple test that the 3945 was recognised as an AirPort because the 1st goal of the 3945 development version is this task and furthermore never achieved by the "original" version itself ??? I`m working hard now to find the breaking points of 2200 vs 3945 and its specifics. Today i re-compiled the 2200 driver with implementing 3945 firmware, and seems i`m close to something ... mercurysquad Posted March 19, 2009 Share Posted March 19, 2009 You're a bit misguided, so I hope this info helps you rechannel your effort: The 2200 driver from iwidarwin does get recognized as 3rd party airport, because it derives from IO80211Controller. No mystery with that. Changing the devID made 3945 get recognized as that too. In the VERY early stages when I was writing the FakeAirport driver, I put in the dev ID of the firewire port so the kext would load up with a PCI device as its provider. It was recognized as 3rd party airport too. A FIREWIRE device. That kext had absolutely no code related to any wifi card in it either. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My journey of being over supplied with erroneous info. Ok first off Does anyone have any better documentation or updated documentation with images instead of ULTRAXS.com!!! I thank the original poster for getting the initial legwork for this project going however, There are many others in dire need of information or testing the drivers to see if it just might work =). So I take it this project is trashed and discarded with creepy crawlers to reply? I am testing a SONY VAIO LAPTOP with a 5100AGN Intel Wifi Card. I am not even sure if there is any remote driver for this if so great im up for all options and routes. Excuse me if I am posting invalid info but I did a 20 min google search.
