SSpiro
Want to play with this before I install on its own partition. I have 10.4.6 ISO JaS release. Want to install, however whenever I boot from ISO, I get this screen. It just sits there. I let it sit overnight last night just in case it was going to take a few minutes and woke up this morning to finding the same screen. Thoughts? SSpiro
Update: I was attempting to install using the ISO image as the CD-ROM, but instead I burned it and then used the actual DVD, and its now installing. Weird.
gnubeard
Boot it. After POST hit F8 to get to the "advanced bootloader options." type -x -v <ENTER> into the bootloader. This boots in safe mode (-x) with verbose error messages (-v) instead of the stupid grey apple screen. <RANT> I very much hate the trend in OS's to boot into some silly, useless animation. Newbs might think it looks pretty, but I want to know whats going on during bootup. If something fails (maybe catastrophic) I don't want to REBOOT again with verbose messages on. I miss the days when operating systems were written for computers and Real Programmers, not artists and bankers. </RANT>
vinsta@xiso
well u have to remember you wouldn't be using it if they didn't make it all pretty and {censored} like that
Webin
Sspiro.. glad to hear you got it working... I spent a couple days "tweaking" on my setup, trying to get it past the grey screen (Usualy I didn't even have the spinning doughnut). Unfortunately, I haven't really been documenting my procedures, so I can't say exactly what made it come alive, but I'm booting successfully 95% of the time now. Vinsta... stop being so "helpful". There's no prize for high post counts.
U.C.
If you use Daemon Tools to mount hte ISO and then point VMWare to that drive it will work.
freedomlinux
I had this same problem with the JaS 10.4.6 in VMware Server. It hangs as a result of a bug in the VMware ISO mounting. Burning to disc would solve this, as would using Dameon Tools, Alchohol 120%, or FarStone VirtualDrive 10.
