Thanks now my Dell 1390 is working, but I have another problem, when I acctually try to conect to a wireless it just freeze. It is either gopes to a bloe screen and shows that "Loading" icon(like the one you see when MacOS is loading) and it just stays there for unlimited period of time(i had enough patience for only 1 hour), or just place that icon on top of my other app's and do not react on anything but a power button.

 

Here are my specs:

 

Jas 10.4.8 release(no updates)

Laptop Dell Latitude 620(Duo 1.83Ghz)

Hitachi 40GB HDD

Sigmatel 9200(works with some lags though)

GMA 950 video - fine

Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx - detected when try to connect the same sitation as with wireless

Dell 1390 wlan mini card.

 

I somehow managed to get both of my network cards(wireless and wired) working once. But now when I try to retrace my steps I just get this screen(read above)

 

Could anyone at least sugest where I might start looking for solution?

Cool, I was wondering why the wireless working after install, however when I rebooted it failed. There was a hint that it was marked at wired ethernet. Any way this worked great for my GateWay MT6704... Now I get to move on to sound... THANKS MUCH

Just move the file to desktop in finder, make changes there with TextEdit, move back, repair permissions

 

I had problems with 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 broadcom kext, it couldnt handle the 11g speed (54mb), just dropoff after some time, connection hangs. Only with 11b speed was it OK. With 10.4.6 kext had no such problems, so there is something with newer kexts.

Hi!

 

I have a Dell wireless 1500 a/b/g/n card on my inspiron 9400.

 

How do I see what´s my device ID in Mac OS X? (I searched over device IDs pages but my model doesn´t appear)

this is my what the system profiler says:

 

AirPort Card Information:

 

Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x9)

Wireless Card Locale: USA

Wireless Card Firmware Version: 4.80.46.0

Current Wireless Network: AirPort is currently turned off

 

could be 0x9? i thought it had to be a 4 digit number...

hmm was sceptical first cause my card was already in the list. followed your instructions and got my wireless back. thank you so much for the fool-proof walk through!!

Managed to get it to recognize BCM4306KFB as Airport

 

Made the change <string>pci14e4,4320</string>

 

as it seems thet the chip is BCM4306KFB, but the actual string for Truemobile 1350 in Windoze is 4320

 

Works a dream using Jas 10.4.8 on Inspiron 5160

Hey,

 

First off, thanks so much to the original poster for posting a clear thread. Most of us are new users to the Mac OS X, and it is nice to see a post that accomodates that.

 

I followed the post to only receive some moderate success. I am running an HP DV5000, which has a mini-PCI Broadcom 4318 chip.

 

I made the changes to both files that you mentioned, and airport was recognized. Thing is, I can not find any local WiFi networks. I know there are at least 20 in my apartment tower, yet not ONE is listed. I attempted to manually imput my local WiFi network's name, but that was also unsuccessful.

 

I might like to note that I am using WEP Encryption. Thanks in advance.

1: Open Terminal (Hard Drive icon -> Applications -> Utilities)

 

2: type this -> 

sudo su

 

3: then this -> 

cd /System/Library/Extensions

 

4: then -> 

cd /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/

 

5: then 

nano -w Info.plist

 

6: Ok then scroll down until you see:

10: then you should see a Blank Baseball Feild Icon (airport icon) on the finder bar

 

11: Open up Terminal then type ->

nano -w /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

cheers FreakyMac, was starting to think playing with OSX was a waste of my time. i know nothing about the ins and outs of OSX and was really starting to worry when system profiler was reporting "no pci cards installed". your step by step instructions were spot on for a OSX newcomer like myself. now my Belkin F5D7001 is working like a charm, and i can finaly put my wireless router back in the front room and put away the telephone extension lead :(

Great Tutorial! It helped get my Belkin 54G (Broadcom 4306) to show up in Os X. However, I've ran into one problem... It won't detect any Networks!

 

I thought maybe the card was Fubar so I tested it in Vista, and sadly it showed all the networks around me.

 

This is a fresh install of 10.4.8 (JaS'), so the kext are fresh (aside from the recent additions I added from the tutorial).

 

Any ideas as to why I'm lacking networks?!

New Information from my Hackintosh

 

I used the JaS 10.4.9 update to update from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9. But this update does not install the IO80211Family.kext with AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext. So I installed AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext manually. The Result is that: This kext doesnt work at all. It needs the whole IO80211Family.kext, but it has the same connection problem as 10.4.8 kext.

 

 

My research with Buffalo Broadcom chip card:

 

10.4.4 - does not load

10.4.5 - loads, but signal strenght bug

10.4.6 - best kext, no bugs or other problems

10.4.7 - sometimes the wifi signal gets weak

10.4.8 - bug, connection lost/freezes with 11g-54mb speed, works with 11b speed

10.4.9 - needs IO80211Family.kext too, but the same connection lost/freezing problem

Hi! thanks, i was able to get my broadcom work following your post!

one more thing... it was no necessary for me to change information in NetworkInterfaces.plist and also if i edited NetworkInterfaces.plist i was not able to see my built-in ethernet, only airport extreme!

 

i had to remove kextcache and mkext from /system/library to get this card being recognized as airport extreme!

FreakyMac, Great POST!!!! :P

 

I was reading your post and followed it to the letter. The problem is I never got the airport wireless icon to show up and when I changed the port from en0 to en1 I got a strange error. The port in network preferences was renamed to PCI Ethernet Slot pci 8086, 4220. Any ideas? One thing to add is that I added the iwi2200 kext that was in the boards before following your instructions. Could this have an effect?

 

A side note, I have to manually activate the wireless connection every time I boot. Any suggestions?
