nebbieloon
Hello, I used this forum years ago but haven't done any repairs and I fell away from it. I am currently trying to replace an SSD in a imac from 2010. This imac originally was ordered from apple with 2 hard drives. I have opened up my imac and am still unable to remove the SSD. It appears to be glued in place. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Neb

Neb Hi there, I have opened up many of Apple products over the years and never seen anything like what you have described, Apple never glues any removable parts such as hard disks in their products. Can you send me the exact model of your iMac? go tho this site enter the serial number of your iMac (this site is safe to enter the serial number) to identify the model and then send me the link of your iMac. If you don't want to enter the serial number of your iMac it's fine, from the bottom of the iMac's stand check the EMC number and post it here so I can identify the exact model.
nebbieloon
Does this have the information you require?IMAC 27"/5750/SD IMAC 27-INCH http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-i7-2.93-27-inch-aluminum-mid-2010-specs.html The SSD is "screwed" to a black plastic "scaffold" that is encloses many regions such as the CD/DVD drive. This black plastic scaffold is not shown in any imac (circa 2010) video tear down that I have watched.

Yes it does, It must have been secured in it's place with adhesive tape. you can use a hair drier to loosen the tape and the try to remove the scaffold gently.
Cyberdevs
Just don't the heat all the way up and to be safe you can heat the adhesive taps from the other side of the iMac not the inside and not directly from the SSD drive.
nebbieloon
Thank you for the replies and suggestions. Since my new SSD was much slimmer that the the old one, I determined there was ample room on top of the CD/DVD drive to place the SSD with double-sided foam tape, and the cables reached it. So that old SSD which is screwed into the black plastic scaffold is now entombed in my imac. I have a successful cloning last night and my imac is operational.
