nv_disable=1 not longer working with 10.12.1

since update to 10.12.1 the boot arg nv_disable=1 doe not longer work here.

 

I think Apple has changed something, with GTX 980Ti i can´t disable Nvidia driver on boot.

My system does always reboot before login screen/Desktop came up.

 

It is only possible with working Nvidia web driver to boot 10.12.1, without supported web driver, i can´t reach desktop or installer.

 

Tested with 3 working 10.12.1 partitions, and a new OS 10.12.1 installer (download today from App Store) and using Pandoras Box to create install media.

nv_disable=1 don´t work, system does always reboot.

 

 

With 10.11.6 i have no problems, i can disable Nvidia driver and boot in VESA mode to Desktop/Installer. This worked also for all 10.12 beta versions.

 

I found this problem when using the 10.12.1 update DMG from Apple website and after install i got only reboots at the same stage.

Seems that the Nvidia.kext is loaded an crashes.

 

And with X99 i don´t have a iGPU.

 

Has anyone else the same problem, or is there a new bootarg to disable Nvidia drivers and boot in VESA mode?

I have not tried it yet but with every update to OSX a new Nvidia Web Driver must be installed, particularly for the GTX ti series. The new driver for the 10.12.1 update, unfortunately, has the same name as the one for the initial OS release which can be confusing. The following link (http://www.macvidcards.com/drivers.html) lists all the divers including the last one (for 10.12.1). Give it a try if you haven't done so yet. Hope it works.

 

I have done further checks and found that even the 10.12.1 release has multiple builds. The latest driver from Nvidia supports only build 16B2555, where as the latest build is 16B2657 (both for 10.12.1). This is turning into quite the annoyance. I have already made the mistake of updating my Sierra to the latest build only to find out that the respective Nvidia driver has not been released yet. Well, It will probably in a couple of days... I guess I have to bear it out. You can check your build by going into About this Mac, then select System Report.... From the right hand list of the System Information scroll down to  and click on Software. On the right pane you will see the System version on the top which includes the build number. Use it to search for the respective Nvidia Web Driver. If it turns out to be 16B2657, then you'd have to wait a couple of days until Nvidia releases the driver for it.

Running or patched Web Driver for 10.12.1 are not the problem.

 

There is a problem without running Web Driver from Nvidia.

This case happens when you install a new macOS or update your system, and you can´t disable Nvidia driver.

 

To install a new OS, or after update Sierra, i used nv_disable=1 flag to disable the Nvidia drivers to load.

So the system booted in vesa mode without acceleration to desktop or mac OS installer.

This does not longer work with 10.12.1 update, i can´t disable Apple Nvidia driver.

 

I tested GraphicsEnabler=No and nvda_drv=0, but system reboots before login screen.

 

Booting a mac OS install disk with 10.12.1 from App Store reboots too, i think this happens after loading Apple Nvidia kexts.

 

In my case, i can use an iMac for installing a new OS, but other people could have the same problems in future with Nvidia Graphic Cards.

I did an error deleting a kext inside APGD..

all is working as before..

so in my case

10.12.1 (build 16B2657) fresh install can work well with old "patched" 16B2555 Nvidia web drivers

I have 750 Ti (Maxwell) and I always got same state as you here when I used MacPro SMBIOS... with iMac14,1-2 everything is good...

I'm on 10.12.1 16b2657 on a 5,1 real mac pro, but can't get the GPU recognised at all.

I can convince the system that it's up to date by patching and installing previous version of the web driver, but when I screen share in I see that the card (GTX970) is not recognised at all.

I also note that when I patch NVDAStartupWeb it refuses to load because the code signature is invalid.

 

 

It's a known-to-work setup. No additional issues.

And yes...I'm aware I'm an idiot, thank you.

I'm in the same boat. Several people have said they can get the patched kext to load but they all seem be using hackintosh. I'm also on a 5,1 Mac Pro with a GTX 980Ti. I believe like you the NVDAStartupWeb is refusing to load because of invalid code signature even though I have SIP disabled. 

 

Not sure what to do other than either wait for Nvidia to release a new driver, or try and roll back to a 16B2555 install.

 

If anyone gets a real Mac Pro to work with an Nvidia 700+ series graphics card using the patched drivers, please let me know how you did it.

Nvidia released 367.15.10.15f03 tonight, which seems to be compatible with 10.12.1 (16b2657).

I don't see it on Nvidia's website, but Nvidia WebDriver Updater 1.5 picked it up.

OSX Nvidia Driver Manager may pick it up too. Not sure.

 

 

I'm having glitches and minor issues with it, just as I was on 10.12.0 although, broadly speaking, it works...

A quick and easy check is to run the basic test in OpenGLExtensionsViewer.

If 'core' is selected rather than 'compatibility' I get glitches.

 

Everything in the OS looks perfect so far, but I am getting no fog in Rust and flickering shadows and occasional crashes in The Long Dark, for example.

 

Can any genuine mac pro w/ gtx card (excluding apple-supported) owners confirm the same?
