Audio Issues on Working Yosemite with Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H

I have a working hackintosh, but am still having an issue with my external speakers not showing up in output selections. I haven't been able to find a solution for in checking previous forum posts / searching on the internet and I was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction.

Few things I've already tried with no luck:

- re-installing audio drivers for Realtek ALC898 codec using latest version of ##### tool

- plugging in speaker wires to front audio output holes vs in the rear

- gone through this video at
which covers how to implement the fixes in this article at http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/67710-how-add-edit-dsdt-hdef-v2.html to see if this might be issue.  What I found was that the HDEF text already existed in my current DSDT so I stopped, as they said if that text existed, then this fix will not help.

My Hackintosh config is as follows:

- OS - Yosemite Version 10.10.1

- CPU - 3.49 GHz Intel Core i7

- Memory - 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

- Graphic Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1024 MB

- Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H - link to specs on website:  http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4139#sp

- Audio Codec (from Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H card) is Realtek ALC898 codec

I really appreciate your help on this, and am glad to answer any questions if you need more clarification..

Thanks in advance...

Looks like it added #### to several of my items since I guess references outside resources... Thanks very much... I read the article but don't see how to add the layout id when using ##### to install the ALC audio driver.

Also not sure which Audio ID to use... Can I determine this from motherboard specs?

I downloaded the audio_realtekALC-100.command.zip file and double clicked to run..

It opened in terminal and gave me this message:

 • 2 weeks later...

Ok I'll try to be brief but I have spent some time on this and I still don't have it working right. I have a GA-Z77X-UP4 TH booted via Clover. I don't use any DSDT, just the Clover basic config. To get sound working, all I did was download and run the Toleda sound script from here: https://github.com/toleda/audio_RealtekALC/blob/master/audio_realtekALC-100.command.zip.  After a reboot, sound works perfectly. I did have to go into the Sound control panel and manually set some stuff that first time, like the checkbox to play a note when you adjust the volume, and to set the output.

However. After sleep, things get wonky. Sometimes after sleep, the sound goes out, and sometimes, if I try to adjust the volume, instead of the normal overlay, it'll display a "no can do" overlay. Sometimes, the sound just automatically shifts to USB sound (I have an old Apple crystal display that connects via USB and has USB sound output). And sometimes it works fine after sleep. I should note that internet is the same way. Sometimes after sleep internet works, sometimes it doesn't.  Rebooting always cures all ills.

Good luck.

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H, Rev 1.0: green port (front and rear) audio does not work in OS X or Linux without a motherboard rework.  Black and Orange ports work.

Rex 1.1 works as expected.
