How to Refresh Battery State with ACPIBatteryManager.kext

This is a problem I had even with Mavericks but it has continued in Yosemite.  If I accidentally knock out my AC power cord from my laptop and replug it back in, it sometimes does not recognize that it was unplugged if I replug it back in very quickly.  Other times, if I don't notice it immediately but the battery is still at 100%, when I replug it back in, it doesn't recognize that the AC power source has been re-established.  A reboot will change that. Alternatively, if I let the battery drain from 100% down to say 95%, when I replug in the power cord, it will recognize that AC power has been re-established and will start charging the battery back up to 100%.

I am using RebhabMan's DSDT patch for the HP Envy17.  It works just fine.  I only want to know if there is a way to refresh the power state info without rebooting or letting the battery run down.
