what does "com.apple" really mean?

hi,guys i'm newbie from osx. i've saw several tutorials metioned "com.apple".to my knowledge, this words is somewhat similar to naming convention of java programming's package ,but that's just my guess. could somebody please tell me essential meaning? thanks.

Just a tag I guess, I wouldn't read anything deeper into it. Like you said, it's just a naming convention, it makes it easy to quickly distinguish Apple system files from other stuff. Handy when troubleshooting, especially when you're looking for something non-Apple, which can be named anything.

Look at ~/Library/Preferences in alphabetized list view to see this for yourself.
