Is there a way to tell the device ID before I buy it?

The model then some simple research.

Yea, both. A quick google the card model and get the ID and look for Mac related topics.

Hi again.

So I waited to late to buy the GT 620 off of newegg and now it's double the price. Could you recommend a card that will work OOB for under $30?

Thanks,

Why don't you just research yourself instead of waiting for people to do all the work for you? It's simple, search in google for cards compatible with mountain lion.
