Hi everyone, I recently starting trying to perfect another Tiger install on my current Optiplex 760 desktop tower. I have it fully updated to 10.4.11 and it's working well but I am in need of a couple files that i've had a tough time tracking down. I hope someone here has these and can help me out.

My current GFX card is a 9500 GT 1GB and I tried using GraphicsEnabler but it hangs right before the loginwindow launches so I searched around until I read that it can be used in Tiger will full res + QE/CI if using Apple stock 10.4.9 Nvidia kexts. I couldn't track them down though. I guess they are part of some modded distros in pkg format but i'm not willing to download a 4-5GB dmg just for a few MB worth of kexts. Through the kind efforts of a member of the forum, who will remain anonymous by request, I have finally come into possession of the DiaboliK 10.4.9 Nvidia Installer. HUGE thanks to that member for their act of good will.

It is my understanding that ICH10 support can be achieved on Tiger through the use of LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext. I couldn't really track down a Tiger-specific version but there are loads of them around for Leopard. Found and tested one to be working. It is a simple plist and should work on every version of OS X!

Lastly, I have been using AppleIntelE1000e.kext to get my ethernet working in both Snow Leopard & Lion but I don't think a version for Tiger was ever compiled, I hope I am wrong. Perhaps there is something similar that goes by a different name that I am unaware of.

I hope that someone out there can help me out with tracking these files down. Thanks for your time.

Ok, so i've been testing out various kexts and methods i've found across the web trying to fix the problems listed above. I haven't had much success with the 9500 GT yet but i'm still confident based on what I read that it will work in Tiger. I replaced all my NVDA kexts (after a backup of course) with extracted ones from the 10.4.9 combo update. GraphicsEnabler still doesn't work but I haven't tested out the many, many kext enablers I have still.

As for the ethernet port, that's still a no go. I tested out a few kexts that I thought might fix it and even injected device ids to better my odds but still no luck on this. Can't seem to find a working Tiger version.

Luckily, I did get something working though! I found a working LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext for Tiger and now my ICH10 is recognized and seems to have a slight performance boost. So this kind of crap doesn't happen again, i'm uploading this file here. Maybe it'll serve someone else in the future and if not then at least I have a reference to be able to find it again.

I'll keep the thread posted on progress. Again, if anyone has any of the files I requested please let me know. thanks!

Which model is your intel network card?
As for the VGA, you'll have to use EFI strings or enabler kext and (probably) the 10.4.9 nvidia driver. I havent succeeded into finding the 10.4.9 nvidia driver standalone package.

btw I wanted the Tiger look mostly,
Its possible to make Snow Leopard look like that and its easier to install.

Hi Zmejce! Thanks for the reply and the info. According to the Dell spec sheet, the network card is an Integrated 10/100/1000 Intel WG82567LM. I haven't booted into Linux lately to dump the hardware info. Sorry >_<

Hmm, I see. That blows. I figured maybe you got the 9500 GT working on your end. Does the 10.4.9 nvidia pkg actually exist? I've been doing this a long time and never even heard of it, let alone come across it.

Not me, I actually like everything about Tiger, not just the look of it. Sadly, with all the advancements made for Leopard & above, Tiger has died off, especially in the osx86 scene. So no one keeps up with it and making it play nice with newer hardware is usually much more difficult because of that fact. Not being able to use DSDT with it really hurts it.

As I said, this is merely a side-project for me and not a very big priority or anything. If I can get everything working that'd be great but either way it doesn't matter to me. It'd be nice but noting everything I mentioned, it sometimes gets to a point when the amount of work involved to get something working just isn't worth the trouble anymore. I just figured I should at least start a thread and ask the community if they had any of these files archived somewhere still.

Anyway, i'll keep playing around with it for awhile and keep the thread posted on any updates I have. Oh and i'll try to get the exact network device info as soon as I can get around to it. Thanks

I didnt managed to install tiger because of the drivers.
Im not 100% sure but I think I had the nvidia 10.4.9 pkg. Unfortunately Ive searched my files and didnt found it, also wasnt able to find it on internet atm.

Oh well. Thanks for looking anyway. It's just odd that something so important could vanish off the Internet like it has. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. I really don't want to spend hours waiting for a crappy torrent to download for one pkg.

Remote possibility that the 82566MM kext would work for you.  It was ported from Linux for 10.5.3.  It supposedly supports 82566 and 82567 with the following ven/device ids:

I will take a look at this a bit later, I already tried using 82566MM, one that I had lying around from another past Tiger setup and it didn't work. I even injected my ids into it too. It could have been an older version too though. I'll check out the info you provided and see if I can get a more current version working.

On second thought, since the 82566MM was compiled for 10.5 it probably won't work.  Your only chance might be to get an older Xcode and the source code for 82566MM from Google and compile in Xcode using the 10.4 SDK.  And if it were only that simple, somebody would have done it already.

Ok, progress update.

Tried the newest 82566MM that you linked rlf and it doesn't work. Clearly it was designed only for Leopard. Oh well.

Now onto the 10.4.9 replacement NVDA kexts. I tried almost every method I could think of to get the 9500 GT to work with it but sadly, I don't think Tiger has the proper support for such a newer model card.

Here is a quick list of what I tried:
-10.4.11 NVDA kexts using Natit (both versions), Titan and GraphicsEnabler; all tried separately.
-10.4.9 NVDA kexts from Combo Update using Natit (both versions), Titan and GraphicsEnabler; all tried separately.
-10.4.9 DiaboliK NVDA kexts using Natit (0.2), GraphicsEnabler tried both separately and combined (Natit+GraphicsEnabler).

As you can see about the only thing I didn't try was device id injection into GeForce.kext and NVDAResman.kext. I just don't see how doing that could help though. I don't believe Tiger has support for anything above a 6xxx-7xxx NVDA card. All I get during verbose is a hang right before the GeForce kext kicks in and tries to take over for the loginwindow screen, which I assume based on previous experiments to be a lack of driver support. Maybe there is something else I could have tried but all in all I have to assume at this point that no, the 9500 will not work in Tiger...Bummer.

Lastly, I did a few tests to see if dsdt is usable in Tiger and to some extent I think it is. I installed Xcode and checked ioreg to see if any of my dsdt edits exist and sure enough all of them are there. The thing is, i'm pretty sure Tiger uses that information very differently than Leopard and above does. I think it uses a read dsdt as a sort of base where it reads and displays the information listed but doesn't really use it in the sense where it could be beneficial by having one and editing it for results. I still believe Tiger cross-checks the hardware setup on it's own and relies more on what it finds rather than what the dsdt tells it exists and what doesn't. Long story short though, no I don't see any benefit from using a dsdt in Tiger.

Have you thought about 2 graphics card?
There's a quite few people who's using 2 cards.
If you really need full graphic function, maybe that could be solution.
I heard 7300gs works with titan, maybe just with graphics enabler.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've already considered doing that though. I have a crappy spare 6200 PCI I could use if I got desperate enough but the purpose of the experiment was to see if Tiger could handle any newer cards. I know I could get it working with the 6200 but that wasn't what I was aiming to do. I appreciate the idea but as I said, this is merely a side project that I was interested in testing. Can anyone tell me how to boot with vanilla kernel on distros like XXX 10.4.11 r2; iatkos 10.5.7 and similar?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure distro talk is frowned upon around here. If it isn't, it should be. There is no such thing as a vanilla distro. Buy the OS and support the company that makes it. That's the only way you'll have an authentic vanilla install. In the case of Tiger, get a restore disc and remove the single machine check.

Nah, even with vanilla it still doesnt works on my cpu. I had already tried it.

Either way. You'll need a fixed kernel for your CPU. If vanilla doesn't work that's the only way you can boot. Look around, they exist.

What version of Tiger are you using? 10.4.11 is what you want.

Yes but you've been using modified distros. I was referring to using an authentic restore disc to install Tiger and updating it to 10.4.11 using the Combo Update. The distro is likely using a legacy kernel for older CPUs. You need an authentic restore disc, not more of that modified crap.
