Hey Guys,

I wanted to know whether I can get away with building a Hackintosh with these components.

CPU - i7 970 6 Core 3.2GHz 1366 Socket or an Intel i7-980X Core i7 Extreme Edition 6 Core Processor 3.33GHz

MOBO - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 2.0) X58 Chipset 1366 Socket

RAM - 24GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz (6x 4GB)

PSU - Corsair Enthusiast TX750 750W

CPU Cooler - Corsair Hydro H80 Liquid Cooling System

BOOT - OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD

HDD - Samsung Spintpoint 1TB (x2)

OPT/D - Sony Optiarc

CASE - Corsair Carbide 400r Black

GPU - Gigabyte Radeon 6870 1GB

MONITOR - 27" Apple Cinema Display & Dell 30" U3011

Keyboard & Mouse - Apple Wired & Magic Mouse

CAM - Logitech C910 HD Webcam

Additional

Firewire 800 Card

Bluetooth adapter thing.

I want to use this bad boy as my main render machine. I have been told not to build a Hackintosh because of stability, but after doing research, a Hackintosh is pretty good for how much you actually pay. I want to be able to use it while my iMac is being occupied by other members of the house.

I have been doing my research for about 1 month now, I think I am ready to make the orders but I then came across the Intel i7-980X Core i7 Extreme Edition.

I want to know if anyone has had any experience installing this CPU and was it successful?

I want to be able to over-clock the CPU to 4GHz and Ram to 1866MHz.

The programs that I use the most are Cinema 4D, Maya, Premiere Pro, & After Effects.

I have been told that this build is on the slight Overkill side, but hey if it works why not? :wink2:

I promise I will try my best to use EVERY core EVERY GHz EVERY GB.. :angel_not:

any advice or tips would be a massive help indeed.

Thanks for reading.

That spec seems perfect to me. Very similar to my own spec.

Everything you need is here:

Don't go for those crappy Corsair water coolers though, they are rubbish, expecially if you plan on a 6 core 1366!

If you want watercooling, do it properly - watercoolinguk.co.uk

Remember the old addage:

Buy cheap, buy twice!
