As the title specifies, what's the best method to make ALC889a work in Lion. In previous OS X versions (Leopard, Snow Leopard), this was quite simple, you just had to patch your DSDT and add a kext for your audio layout in Extra/Extensions.

Now it seems that you need to modify an original Apple kext under /System/Library/Extensions to make it work. I personally don't like this solution simply because after the 10.7.1 update, you have to start all over again (audio modifications lost).

So my question is simple (maybe the solution isn't :-)). Isn't there a way to make it work without altering an original kext (but simply patching DSDT + kext(s) under Extra/Extensions)?

Maybe there is already a solution (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=263931#?) but I didn't quite find it...

I'm not sure if you have audio working and just want it to stay working after updates or whether you want to know how to get it to work.

All I can tell you is how I got it to work on my ep-45 ds3r.

I used #####.

I have attached a screen shot of what I checked.

I think I had to do it again after the update but I can't remember.

HTH.

Mike
