Ok, so, I am having issues finding drivers for this card, I have looked here and on google with no luck so far. Does anyone or HAS anyone got this card to work or know where to get drivers? Also, is it possible to wrap drivers on here like you can do in linux?

I got a GTX 460 and a lot of problem with it. Last update10.6.7 to 10.6.8, I've been oblige to quit and take another grafic card.

All I know, you should look if the solution CUDA Here and the quadro's driver from NVIDIA for Mac Here

Ok, i will check this out, looks like what i've tried before and it did not work last time....now if this doesn't work have you heard anything about the ATI Radeon HD 5670?

After looking for more info, it looks like your GTX 550 was not compatible BUT the drivers I've posted you are brand new (a week old or less), you've tried these? In my case, my GTX 460 was finally completely recognize but I've still got the famous "freeze"'s problem. These latest drivers "Lion" ready should finally works for you.

In your case, like mine, you wouldn't be allowed to boot a Mac OS or install with your GTX 550, isn't it? It's normal. You should install with another graphic card, an old one for example (with ATI, it's easier), then solve the GTX550's problem to be allowed booting your system with this graphic. In my case, I've solved the problem by installing the new drivers with the old graphic card in place, then reboot with the GTX card.

For the Ati HD 5670, take a look over Here for a 10.6.7 in the wiki section. This card seems to be compatible.

Ok will check it out for sure!

Also, I am starting to wonder if the reason the drivers did not work is because my Mac is outdated. My only issue now is i cannot get it to update it gets to the end freezes up and then my whole Mac install is screwed basically and i have to reinstall everytime. Is there any trick to fixing that issue so i can try to move on to getting the bootloader installed then fixing my graphics issue?

your os, which version is it?

It's better create a more specific post... I'm not a specialist. Try to describe you hardware with all details, your os version and hack mode used.

I personally think the reason of the dramatic "freeze" effect appears when it update the graphic card. When the system overwrite the kext for the new ones when it shutdown, it get stuck with it. And of course, deny to reboot.

Have you tried to install via the combo mode? manually? with another graphic card? The only thing that I'm sure is that most of my problems comes from this Nvidia card...

For the re-install problem:

Make a specific partition for the os only, and before every important update of the system, create a image-backup from mac. If the system crash, you start with the Mac Os DVD, launch install then select the option restore,... blablabla (google backup mac os and you'll find a good explanation for this). It's an easier and much faster than a full new installation with all your programs.

I installed a Retail 10.6 disc i bought from best buy (family pack) and used the nawcomModCD to boot the retail disc. I am unaware of which version of 10.6 i have but will go with as low as 10.6.4 i would assume. I have no other graphics card on hand to try with, was just looking into another one.

Here is a link with full specs on what my card has including the FW its running straight from the manufacturers web site!!!

I'm sorry but I can't help you any more. You should find somebody more experienced for this.

There can be a lot of different solutions and I don't know which one... I'm still a newbie in this world.

I've made a few question you should analyse:

- Have you looked for a good tutorial adapted to your motherboard? or computer model?

- Is there another way to create your system? Chameleon, EFI,...

- Which options the nawcomModCD installed?

- When your system "no updated" works, do you have choices in the screen's resolution?

- You have sound?

- Ethernet operative?

You succeeded to install mac OS with your GTX550 and this surprise me. This is the proof that your graphic card is not so incompatible as I taught.

If you have a good screen resolution, sound and internet, you should be happy yet and maybe think about leaving your os without updating it, and wait for the Lion Os.

But in my place, I would continue and look for solutions.

So, my advice is:

Create a new topic, write:

- a full description of all your hardware (motherboard, cpu, ram, graphic,...),

- your hack method (details of what stuff nawcomModCD installed),

- post an image or a copy of the details from "about this mac" -> "More info", section hardware, all of them.

- What's working well or not.

- The problem

and pray for the help of an expert ;)

Regards

True, you can install with a Fermi card if you don't use any video injection. I cannot speak for GTX 5xx cards but I have a GTX 460 and I can boot my 10.6.3 install DVD with my Chameleon boot CD if I set GraphicsEnabler=n. Note that the 10.6.3 nvidia drivers have no Fermi support at all.

I believe GTX 5xx cards only work on Lion:

Imma try the Lion release that is out now (all though its only the developers version) and see if i have any luck. Also, yes, i have sound and internet and was actually posting a lot of that from within mac. When Lion comes out, if the hacked versions works for me i will go out and buy it, its only gonna be $30, not to much for an OS like M$ charges....

Also, my sound device works because its not an on bourd sound device or even a PCI card, its a fire wire device by Mackie called the Onyx Satellite which they made drivers for available on their own website.
