I've been reading and I am a bit confused. If I get a laptop with Intel HD Graphics, can I get full qe/ci? Can someone clarify?

It's a hit and miss really. Stay away from Intel HD Graphics.

Well am I also correct in saying its problematic with having discrete graphics because there is still the intel hd built in? So if I get an i3 or i5, what sort of GPU should I be looking for?

Any modern nvidia (Fermi's (GT4xx) are problematic though) card should suffice.

Well like if I look through the vostro 3700 thread, which has the 330m or 310m, they worked, but then they didn't because dell started producing them as hybrids without telling anyone. So how do I know if it is a hybrid or not?

jazzyguy, i could get the Intel HD3000 graphics in mine with help from others here in the forum. With QE/CI. However there are some video artifacts that happens on the desktop. Most of the pplications run without an issue though.

I have a sandy bridge laptop (XPS 15).

Mine does have nvidia graphics too (optimus). but the nvidia portion does not work.
