jackxlj
Thank you all for this guide. I have read thoroughly the 9 pages and all the other related threads.I have exactly followed the methodology here gj3jh bios 209 1) last ##### from tony mac 2) install 10.6.3 3) upgrade to 10.6.7 4) ##### (##### + options provided above) 5) chameleon version for the g73.zip provided here 6) prefpane 7) replacement of Extra with extra from the g73.zip (removed ati.rom) 8) reboot 9) install 3 kexts from g73.zip 10) install wireless kext and hotkey kext everything went smoothly, rock stable. Conclusion: super happy, we are almost there (maybe we should rename the 100% working ) So at 10.6.7 everything works except, i have made an assessment of every shortcomings: a) shutdown (screen is going down) not the PC sleep (same symptoms) c) power management seems to be not working efficiently (fans are spinning faster that under win 7) -not sure about that one just a gut feeling d) battery indicator not available (might be fixed with voodoo battery) but it should work from scratch e) multitouch two finger swipes does not work for me, i can using the right side of the touchpad if anyone has a solution for a) to e) i would be very happy. Note: i did not install a dsdt because i do not have one for the g73 Thank you A) mine shuts down, via power button or the upper corner. b)mine wont sleep either c)cant say for sure on this either way, i put a sound level indicator on my laptop and it produced the same levels of noise under win 7 and osx d)ehhh i feel dumb as a brick, i didnt even notice no battery indicator up there, lol Ive never tried to run this beast off of battery... e)same as above, I use a apple magic mouse under win 7 and osx, didn't even try the track pad till you mentioned it not working right

fargerjaques
I need to know what voodooHDA.kext is being used to activate volume for the mic as I used the .2.2 but no mic, then I use 2.7.2, I get volume on mic but I loose control of the volume slider, I can't change the volume settings. Prefpane doesn't even work.

baublitz
Hello everyone and a big THANK YOU to those helping so much. I have a couple queries. Can someone post a picture or list of the exact ##### settings we need to use (in regards to driftingbunnies' method on page 7: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...668&st=120)? It seems that in the maze of posts the exact checkmarks we require in ##### installation have been muddied up. Does it matter which version of ##### we have? Could we also get the right extra folder posted as well? I think there are a couple different ones floating around. When I did install the OS on my computer it was able to boot from just the stock OS, but after ##### installation along with chameleon and prefpane, etc.; when I reboot the mac logo shows up and loads for a while then CRASHES. The crash screen is not the typical grayed out "restart your computer" screen. Instead it is a pattern of splotchy glitchy blocks that cover the screen, leading me to believe it is a graphics problem? I have already tried -v, -s, -f, graphicsenabler=yes or no, for boot. No success, just different crash screens. Thanks again, any help would be appreciated!
BladeZero
I've had a problem I believe in the latest ##### install....... The USB mouse won't work. ctang2000
Thanks for the information. I have installed 10.6.7 using the most updated #####, ##### 3.7.0, Chameleon v2.0 RC5., follow the instruction in this thread. Then I boot in 64 bit mode. PS2, HDA do not work as they are 32 bit kexts. Then I found 64 bit kexts for PS2 and HDA. Everything working fine now. I installed virtual box to run Window 7 64 bits. I can use all the 8 GB memory now. The issues now are: 1. Mic is not working. I can only use Steelseries USB sound card to use a mic. 2. Computer cannot wake up after sleep. I can only set never sleep. Anybody knows how to solve the above issues. Finally, I have a G73JH A1, bios

If yes have you done anything special. 2) does multitouch work with your trackpad (meaning to fingers scroll swipe like on a real macbook pro) 3) can you see a battery indicator? Sleep and wake from sleep are indeed the biggest remaining pb. Kudos to the one that will find a solution.
ctang2000
1. Yes, I can shutdown or restart normally without any issue. I did not do anything special. 2. For the trackpad, I can scroll with two fingers horizontally and vertically. I do not used to use mac. I do not know what other function a mac book trackpad has. 3. No, there is not battery indicator. I think this is connecting to the power management module. Basically, my G73 Mac Book Pro satisfy 90% of my need. Those issues are not big deals. For the mic to work you someone needs to compile the kext that I posted earlier in 64bit mode or have another alternative kext that will work. For batter you need voodoobatter kext, we still need keyboard backlight which the g73sw does have so someone with dsdt know how could help us with that. ctang2000
With reference to this link: http://www.kexts.com/audio-sound/8643-micr...-voodoohda.html I downloaded VoodooHDA 2.7.2. ctang2000
Are you able to change the volume level from the mail volume controls and with the voodoo prefpane? No. But I can control it at VLC. I did not try other media player. I will try to tweak the kext again to see if it works. If not I may try other kext if I have time.
backmask
First of all, I would like to thank everyone again who made this possible for the G73jh. I have a question, I've been using logic lately, but every time I do a playback of my tracks I hear the audio clip or break. I have plugged in an external audio interface, yet I still hear the audio clip or break during playback using only logic. When I use the default speaker settings the audio lags even when streaming something in youtube, however, while I use my audio interface as default audio output everything works fine, except for logic. Any ideas???? Thanks in advance.

gnegno
Hi everybody, i'll post here as it seems that my problem is strictly related to my g73jh machine. As i've posted here (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=259775) i have different issues with my external usb hdd. I've successfully installed SL on it, following the driftingbunnies todo list, but after point 5 (install OSX, restart) i couldn't boot from this hd anymore. My hd was causing different problems with ##### or similar (the 0xDEADBEEF problem) or wasn't even discovered by the bios. So i've tried using my desktop pc (unfortunately not an i7 pc) and, after having resolved some legacy bios and usb hdd problem, i've managed to boot from it, and i've completed almost all of the steps in the todo list (##### etc...). After installing chameleon and the prefpane, i've decided to try to boot directly from my G73jh ( i've used my desktop as an "install boot loader" bridge). But when i try to boot from it, it just starts to load chameleon and then... ...restarts. ...how can i do? Has someone had similar issues with an usb Hd installation? ...help please...i'm starting to go crazy even before the real crazy things part (kext and DSDT installation )

I only miss for now the shutdown but its a question of time to do. =) Just wait. Completely new here, never done anything like this before. Could almost say I'm the noob of noobs. Anyway, First i want to thank all you guys out there for putting so much time and effort into this project. I've been reading through all pages, have installed the mac pro setup atm on my machine, but kept getting critical kernals so am writing this from my macbook now. It would be really awesome if Norton or some one else with the knowledge could make a new step to step instruction with the correct EXTRA folder and other files that are needed. Tanks again. Love! Norton1533
i m missing the part of activate the quartz GL on the OSX86 tools I receive this error: Can’t make "The domain/default pair of (com.apple.windowserver, QuartzGLEnabled) does not exist" into type boolean. (-1700) Help please. Hi guys, After reading this whole post and with great help of Pavel and Driftingbunnies i installed Mac OS X but i... 1. installed 10.6.7 Combo Update instead 10.6.6 in first post 2. Used ##### 3.4 and selected the new ATI kernals from the new 10.6.7 update and touchpad drivers 4. Unchecked NULLCPU or EvOReboot 5. Pick macbook pro 6,1 instead of mac pro 4,1 6. Install chameleon 7. Replace EXTRA folder only since the new kernals don't need the new boot file. 8. Install the audio kernal and ethernet kernal and appleHDAdisabler 9. Reboot Now i have macbook PRO with NO Wireless N and forgeting problem, restart and shutdown works Only if i someone figure out how to turn keyboard lights ON it would be great do you have QE / CI activated by the OSX Tools?
