Possible Warning! Quicktime Update

I'm really hesitant on posting this and hopefully it's only a problem that I've encountered and will not affect anyone else.

To start with, my system runs generic DVD release 1 with the 5c patch.

All has been great. I've had no problems downloading iTunes 5 and iPhotos latest update. I't even installed iLife minus iDVD(which renders a hardware requirement problem)

Today I started up normally, browsed this site, read some comments then headed over to Apple to see if there mite be some info on x86 10.4.2. I noticed on the main page under downloads that Quicktime had released 7.0.1. So I downloaded and installed it.

At the end of the install I noticed that the version was actually 7.0.2. From what little I've learned about Apple, they don't generally make typo errors.

As the install began I was alerted that my machine would need a reboot upon completion. I thought I should try to repair my disk permissions before I rebooted.

Nope DiskUtility would not start, nor would a Terminal.

I reboot and now I'm stuck at the Mac Progress bar screen, I've booted several times including -s -x -v. In single user I can get to a root prompt but I can't repair permissions and even if I could I don't think it will help.

At one point I had left the computer and came back 15 minutes later still to be at the Progress bar screen.

So I'm going to have to reinstall.

Again this my be isolated to me but you may want to be a little more careful in what you accept from the Apple Site.
