poopmonkey
In windows I can use that amount. Yet, Mac freezes with and without kernel maxmem flags.

verdant
BUMP! Have you checked if OS X Leopard is able to work with your 4GB RAM?
Gringo Vermelho
I have another idea, maybe it's the good old http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=127611 from hell.
poopmonkey
Have you checked if OS X Leopard is able to work with your 4GB RAM? Well, from what I can see it doesn't work with my 4GB of RAM since it doesn't boot. I do not see why it shouldn't but it doesn't... I have another idea, maybe it's the good old http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=127611 from hell. I tried that before I posted here. Never worked for me. Could be due to the fact that I have a Intel IDE Controller not JMicron or Nforce. Also, I do not have a AppleVIAATA.kext on my system. Thanks for trying though. I appreciate it. verdant
@ poopmonkey Are you sure that 4GB is the "official" max. RAM and not an "unofficial" max. RAM found to work with Windows following the availability of 2GB RAM modules after the laptop MOBO was designed.........I ask because I have seen http://www.memorystock.com/memory/AcerAspire5601AWLMi.html http://www.superwarehouse.com/Acer_Aspire_....005/ps/1492216 http://www.pcmemorystore.com/Acer-Aspire-5601AWLMi-ram.htm versus http://www.memory4less.com/m4l_results.asp...odelid=80022414
poopmonkey
Yes, I am sure that 4GB is the official max. It is stated so in my documentation of my laptop. Though, it has been documented on the internet that i945GM chipsets have a limitation of 3.25GB being detected since they cannot memory remap. I can easily put the two 2GB modules in my laptop and run windows perfectly, no BSODS, no hangups nothing. Overall, it has to be OSX. I really don't mind only have 3.25GB to share with my 950GMA but I just want to have that much and not just 2.5GB.

With 4GB RAM install, extract the dsdt.dsl file when running Windows (using DSDTSE for XP) and then extract the dsdt.dsl file when running OS X (using DSDTSE for OS X).........zip a folder containing both dsdt.dsl files (tell me which is which in a text file note in the folder) and PM me a download link......... Hotblood
That's sounds strange ....very strange. On my desktop pc I added 2*2gb ddrII module without any problems on boot. I was only 2GB of ram before. I had upgraded w/o any problems! If I can give help I used: Ideneb 10.5.8 Le installing only necessary files and all works as well
