I shall discuss the title first. A title is where someone decides whether that poster is a n00b spammer or a valuable addition to the community. Ex: NEED HELP WITH DELL vs Need some help with my new Dell The title is the only information a person has when deciding whether or not to open a thread. #1) As a general rule, you should not post specs in the title of the post if your problem is unrelated to the hardware. All this does is scare away people that have no knowledge of that board. You still need to post your system specs in your post! #2) THIS IS NOT 4CHAN. TITLES SHOULD NOT BE TYPED IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS. IF I CAN FIND THE CAPS LOCK KEY, SO CAN YOU. THE BOARD RULES SAY THAT THE MODS WILL DELETE THREADS THAT HAVE TITLES LIKE THIS SO DON'T DO IT!!! #3) Make sure it is a descriptive and fitting title. "Hello guys, I need a little help." That is a bad title. How about "Grub error". That is good, but not as good as "KP when I start iWeb" The content of the post does only a few things. It: Confirms you're a troll, Gets you banned, Earns you a little bit of credit, Establishes your personality. Be careful here. #1) If you have a KP (Kernel Panic) don't panic. Take a picture of the screen using your camera and post it here UNLESS it is a nice KP (when a window asking you to restart your computer pops up). If the "nice KP" happens during bootup, type "-v" and there should be a lot of white code. When it hangs, take a picture and post it here. #2) If your computer hangs on bootup, no KP, boot -v and send us a pic of your screen when it hangs. #3) BE WILLING TO FIX IT!!! Many people here think that they can download this iAtkos thingy and install OSx86 like their machine is a mac. This is not true. FKA Posted September 18, 2010 Share Posted September 18, 2010 Obviously searching the forum for a thread that already exists and answers your question would be the first thing you should do. If there is already a thread about your particular problem or piece of hardware but it does not answer your question - then you should post your question in that thread. Only as a last resort, once you have extensivly searched the forum and found no solution and no existing topic, should you then start a new thread! IMHO - of course!
